The Bible teaches that God did not create hell as a judgment for humanity. God created hell for the punishment of the devil and his angels and not as a place for human beings to suffer. Jesus said:

Then He will also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels' (Matthew 25:41).

Hell was created as a place of judgment for Satan and those who followed him in their rebellion against God. The Bible says that the devil and his angels will eventually be consigned to hell:

And the devil who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever (Revelation 20:10).

Human beings, who are created in God's image, are not meant to spend eternity away from the presence of God. The place God created for them is heaven. Jesus spoke of this place that God has prepared for those who trust Him:

In My Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also (John 14:2,3).

Hell was not created for humanity, but it is the destination for those who reject God's salvation in Jesus Christ.

Jesus desired unity. There is a reason there are so many different denominations.It wasn't meant to be this way but people are ppl.

I thought Satan was the one who created hell.

Satan was not the Creator.How could Satan have created hell?
He was Lucifer before the fall.
Satan wants to see our children dead in a dumpster. Genesis tells us that Satan was not only a liar but a murderer from the beginning. The only one who wants to see mankind in hell is Satan. God does not. You see Satan cannot destroy God but he can destroy God's creatures-us. So the whole plan of Satan is to see us dead and that includes eternally.
Everything Satan tempts one to do is attractive for the moment.It always leads to death.
Think about that. Murder-for sure.Suicide-yep.Abortion.Sure thing. Sex outside of marriage-look at the consequences of that.
Divorce, drugs,aids.You name it.
Evil has consequences.
Not just for each of us personally but in the larger picture.
But it's not just about avoiding evil,ok? Sex is sacred and a beautiful relationship when we are not using each other.It's not that we say no-it's that we say YES to something special.
Then we leave this act open to creation-again that is LIFE.If we treat each other with dignity and respect it brings life into the marriage and by extension the community.

You destroy the family and soon you destroy civilization. The basic building block of civilization/society IS the family. Satan destroys that and it's not long before the society collapses,the country collapses and it's even possible that a civilization collapses. We have to see the BIG picture.

It's a threat invented by man to keep religous leaders in power, as of course only THEY have the right recipe of religion to avoid it. Nothing like the threat of eternal torture by burning (with a few examples for the masses to see) to keep people in line.

And why would one need such a threat to keep religious leaders in power?Besides how much of a threat is it if it has no immediate consequences?
And you're thinking that people live up to certain ideals because of a threat?
It's a place to start of course,but if the threat of hell is the only consequence i don't think people are going to 'stay in line' for long as you put it.
Hell can't be the ONLY reason people accept the teachings of Jesus.
However,you have to show me that it was a threat invented by man.
I don't see many ancient religions that had such a teaching as heaven and hell.

Killing off the voice of opposition was a regular method of keeping religious leaders in charge. Heretics, blasphemers, witches were their labels and they were killed for it. Burned, hanged, drowned etc etc.
