Why can most states require residents to have auto insurance and no hell is raised but requiring health insurance which is way more useful causes a huge uproar ?

It's simple. You have a choice to drive or not drive, You now have no choice in weather or not to buy health insurance.

Why do you have so much trouble with that concept?, or do you like having the Federal Government running your life for you?

They shouldn't mandate either. A government mandate is no different than a guy putting a gun to your head and telling you to guy a kit-kat bar or he'll pull the trigger.

It is seemingly more complicated than auto insurance. Any state could add half a cent sales tax and buy a catostrophic health care policy on every citizen, and the thing would be mostly solved. What causes the uproar is the federal government forcing the damned issue. The administration of ANY health care plan should be as close to those it serves as possible, NOT in Washington friggin DC.

You are only required to have car insurance if you own a car. If the government tried to say the we had to pay for the car insurance of those who couldn't afford it, people would be pissed.

Because it is up to the states and is decided on, by the states.
Health insurance that you refer to was decided upon and pushed by one man.
Congress did not vote on it, as is required of all new taxes, and thus while it may be standing now; it is illegal to enforce.

Owning an automobile is an option.

One must take the responsibility of having insurance if one opts to own an automobile.

Forcing Americans to purchase something (i.e. Health Insurance) is or should be unconstitutional.

Should I pay for auto insurance if I do not drive or own a car??????????????????????? HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

Because if you get into an auto accident and injure someone or damage their you are gonna have to pay of those damages. Most people don't have the means to so insurance covers them.

It is elective. Don't have a car and you don't have to pay insurance.

The court said it wasn't constitutional. Which is true. Libs got around it as a penalty tax. If you don't buy insurance you pay a fine which the IRS will be in charge of.

    tio

PS. Personally, I do not agree with having to buy car insurance. It is extortion.

You only have to get car insurance if you have a car, and no one else is being forced to pay for those who can't afford it. Can't afford car insurance, can't drive.

Get real, there are a lot of people out their without ins. and there still driving because unless you live in NYC or a similar mass transit city you have to drive to exists, and everyone knows it,including the Government! Why do you think everyone has a no ins. clause in there policy.

Just because people are out there driving, doesn't mean it's legal. They are breaking the law, plain and simple.

They are breaking the law because they cannot afford insurance, thousands of them, all States should have No-Fault,but they sold out to the insurance companies.

It's their fault if they can't afford insurance. If they can't, they shouldn't be driving.

Evidently you can afford insurance, and i am happy for you,but a lot of people can't but have to drive for economics, and other reasons !

But AGAIN, it is not MY responsibility to pay so that someone else case drive. I pay for my own insurance, everyone else needs to pay for theirs.

    Three reasons:

    1. When you have cause a car accident that I am involved in, you have to pay for the damage to my car. I want to make sure that I will indeed be payed. If you get sick, but don't have health insurance, that's a problem that impacts you, but you do not have a financial obligation to pay me anything.

    2. You do not have to drive and so do not have to purchase auto insurance. You do have to live, and so, would be forced to purchase health insurance. So, you have a choice with auto insurance, you would not with health insurance.

    3. Mandated health insurance seems like the first step in a progression towards a single payer system. That is a scary prospect to many of us,
