Why are there so many haters of people who are gay or lesbian?

Sarah 2012/08/08 08:08:24
I don't understand why some people out there define homosexuality as a sin, now how could it be a sin when you can't choose to be homosexual, and let alone, why is it even a bad thing. I am christian, I go to church, I listen, and from what I hear, being Christian is about being a good person and loving God, not having to be perfect or having to be a specific person. I am not homosexual, but I know that no one should be treated so poorly at times because of their sexual orientation, why is this even such a large deal to some, it's their life, their relationship, if you felt how they felt you would feel different about it, just stay out of the persons' lives, think about your own.
You!

People are misguided, lack education, fear of something different, fanatics.... you name it, humans are not perfect. It's nice to know there are a lot of people out there who believe that just because someone is gay that they should be able to live a life in peace. A lot of people use religion to justify their own fears and often times they interpret the bible incorrectly from the start. Oh well, that falls under human nature too.
One day in the future people will look back and scratch their heads and wonder what was the fuss about anyway.

Just something for society to hate. :/ That hatred should be pointed at more relevant and pressing matters, however it is wasted on a issue that shouldn't even be one.
    Love is freakin' love.
Thats all there is to it.

Because people are afraid of what they don't understand, or what they are told is wrong

It is ignorance or someone who was raised to prejudge people.
I was a dancer and hairdresser for many years. My teachers were gay. I owe my skills in my professions to creative gay people. The creativity, humor, beautiful decorating, designing, fantastic parties, loyal friendship and a lot of fun, I owe to my gay friends.

I admire your passion but not your logic my friend. Calling something a sin is not "hate" it is simply a statement of something one believes to be a fact such as stating the chair I am sitting on has four legs or that stating water is wet. Now any statement may be correct, partly correct or incorrect and of course some statements are more difficult to prove than others.

I would also point out to you that hating a sin is not the same as hating the person who commits the sin. Let's look for example at Jesus. Jesus did not condemn the woman taken in adultery. Does that mean that adultery is not a sin? No, Jesus made clear that adultery is indeed a sin. Did Jesus hate the woman taken in adultery? Again no. We know from other portions of Scripture that Jesus hated no one. What Jesus hated was sin. Let me ask you if you had a child and that child stole something from a store would that be a sin? Most people would answer yes, depending upon how old this child was it was probably a sin to take something from the store that belonged to the store without paying for it. Now would you hate the child? Most people would answer no they would not hate the child even though the child committed the sin of theft.

You claim that homosexuality is not a choice and I agree with...

You claim that homosexuality is not a choice and I agree with you. But it isn't attraction that some claim to be a sin it is same sex sex which is an action. Those who make the claim that same sex sex is sinful do so mainly due to two reasons 1) The Scriptural Record 2) Holy Tradition. There are portions of Scripture that seem to declare that same sex sex is sinful. Recently some scholars have questioned whether these portions of Scripture are correctly translated and understood but regardless that is why most people who are Christians believe what they do about same sex sex.

As Christians our duty is to spread the good news of the Gospel. Part of that good news is that we are sinners, and as sinners we are separated from God. Whether same sex sex is a sin or not will be debated I am sure for far more years than either of us has left on this planet. What is important is our behavior. We as Christians are called to treat all with love. We are called to share the truth with love. We are even called to love those that would be considered our enemies, even to the point of death. St. Stephen prayed that those who were killing him would be forgiven, we are called to do no less. So pointing out sin is necessary but should always be done with love and kindness and with the goal of bringing one to repentance and reconciliation with the Father. If one does not understand that they are lost it is unlikely that they will understand their need to be found. If one does not understand their sin it is unlikely they will understand their need for forgiveness.

Unfortunately we live in a world in which sharing the truth in love and because of love of God and neighbor is the exception as opposed to the rule.

I pray this bit of rambling has helped your understanding a bit.

    Blessings Upon You

People fear what they don't understand. Then someone comes along saying 'it's don't worry that you're scared of them and hate them, because this single sentence in a book tells you what you're feeling about them is okay.

So they all jump onboard as it gives justification to their prejudice.

I have a theory on this. It is mentioned in the Bible, but so little was known about homosexuality back then that people of the time didn't know that it wasn't a choice. They assumed that those who engaged in homosexuality were sexually immoral, and sexual immorality is a sin. My theory is that because they assumed that homosexuality was a choice, it fell in to the "sexually immoral" category, and therefore, was considered to be a sin. It seems strange to me that God would condemn someone for being the way that he made them. Homosexuality has also got to be one of the least mentioned "sins" in the Bible too. I'm no Bible scholar and I could be wrong, but something about a loving God punishing someone for being gay makes about as much sense as God punishing me for being short. I can't control my height any more than any person can control their sexual orientation.

This is a very plausible theory. Way to think outside the box.
