they SAY they are for individual freedom from government regulation, but they're only too happy to let the government screw over minorities because it helps mobilize the religious fascists to vote GOP.

No Conservative I know is anti-gay rights; not one. Nobody I know cares what homosexuals do in the privacy of their own home. Every Conservative I know on a personal level outside of SodaHead is against homosexual marriage. It has to do with changing the definition of marriage for tax benefits and insurance benefits and they recognize that.

Because it's absurd for two people of the same gender to be married. It doesn't pass the common sense test. The genetailia are not complimentary as a couple should be defined in nature. Homosexuals make up 1.7% of the population. Homosexuality is in essence a disability from birth. Should we create special rules for marriages of people who are born with autism?

Because they are conservative. DUH! And the picture above is terribly unfair. Westboro Baptist Church in no more an example of conservativism than it is Christianity.

It is against their religion. Usually Catholics and Muslims oppose gay rights.

They're not in the UK. The conservatives here support gay rights. Or at least that's what they say in public :-)

I have no problem with them having benefits but marriage is between one man and one woman not man on man and woman on woman.

What's next....Multiple marriage partners? Underage kids for the Muslims like back in their homeland? How about with their pet ape?

Where does this can of worms end after you open it?

I can't resist this; #1, you said marriage should be one man and one women - women is plural. #2, comparing gay marriage to bestiality is stupid - and disgusting. Is that the best you people can come up with? Sorry, but I've heard that argument one too many times.

Conservatives, by definition, resist change more than progressives. I believe (Note: OPINION follows) that conservatives are more anti-gay rights than progressives, but this does not include all of them.

Republican positions, even from the most curmudgeonly, (e.g., Dick Cheney) seem to be evolving, Since MOST Americans now seem to support gay marriage, resistance is futile.

Children who grow up without fathers are two to three times more likely to become high school drop outs, abuse drugs, fail to gain long term employment, commit suicide, and have children out of wedlock. Its just NOT the norm......

50% of first marriages, 67% of second, and 74% of third marriages end in divorce, according to divorcerate.org.

It might not be the norm for children to grow up without fathers, but I'd say it's pretty common.

How could being adopted by lesbians possibly be worse than bouncing around in foster care?

Your answer really doesn't seem to have anything to do with the question.

Because it took a man and a woman to create us. Foster care would be a "normal" environment vs that of two of the same sex..

I know a little girl who watched her infant sister get beat to death by her parents. She spent years in foster care because her aunt was willing to play legal battles so she'd have a cute little doll to dress up next to her cousin.

You're going to have to come up with a *much* better argument. Being raised by homosexual parents may not be ideal, but it's *much* better than bouncing from one home to the next where a kid isn't loved.

I'd rather be raised in a family with a Father and Mother then both of the same. 95% of the rest of the world would too.
  • jimrthy... DavidK 2012/06/28 14:05:06

Foster homes generally aren't "family". They don't "raise" kids.

I'm sure some of them are great. But the vast majority are just places for the kid to hang out at, hoping to be adopted.

If your number is anywhere near accurate (and I'm pretty sure you just made it up), I'm willing to bet it doesn't hold true for kids in foster care.

It took me *forever* to get back to this. I apologize for that.

And I have to totally disagree.

Watching your kid sister get brutally murdered by your straight parents would be worse than having gay parents.

I'm sure I could come up with other examples.
  • DavidK jimrthy... 2012/08/17 02:48:18

But having your kid brother spread aids to all his friends that he contacted from his gay parents would be FAR worse than having straight parents!
  • jimrthy... DavidK 2012/08/18 02:19:58
    jimrthy BN-0
I think that almost everyone will agree that straight parents are generally better for the kid than gay.

I'm just saying that gay parents who *want* to raise a kid are more likely to produce a decent child than a straight couple who are really just in it for the money.

And I know straight couples who've done as much damage as possible.

It sounds to me like you've never spent much time talking to social workers about some of the truly awful things straight parents can do. Much less foster care.

Or were you objecting to something else in my post?

Personally, I'm pretty convinced that "conservatives" (i.e. Bible thumpers) are anti-gay because their churches teach them to hate. Which is, really, a sad indictment on the state of modern Christianity.
