Why are conservatives all for cigarette but against pot?

I'm closer to a conservative than a liberal, but I have nothing against pot. If pot is legalized, would employers not have the right to conduct drug tests?

I've known a few people come to work fairly buzzed on alcohol, and they lost their job. Alcohol is a legal drug. I'd assume the same would happen if (pot hypothetically being legal) a person came in high. I'm sure prescription would be an exception.

Anyone who argues against the legalization of marijuana must either 1) not know the subject very well or 2) argue for the criminalization of all drugs (alcohol included) if they don't want to be a hypocrite. Legalize, regulate, educate.

There is no marijuana lobby lining their pockets with campaign cash and giving them all kinds of perks.

neither, I am a conservative and i don't support cigarettes either, secondhand smoke is dangerous. The best way to use tobacco is to dip it.

I am a conservative and I support the legalization and legislation of marijuana. I know plenty of conservatives who feel the same way.

Pot does less damage but cigarettes do more damage in the end.

Cigarettes don't have any medication purposes and pot does.

CONs are for cigarettes because its big business that provides them with brides .... errr I mean campaign donations.
Pot does not ... and if they would make it legal all the profit would be taken out of it. Besides CONs much prefer cocaine, just ask Ronny Reagan.

Pot should be legalized and taxed. We would not have a deficit ever again.

The Liberals at the top have not done much as well. The whole thing is stupid. Pot should be legal. Jack and coke will kill you and so will cigarette. Smoking anything can't be good but you can eat pot. The most dangerous thing about weed is that it is against the law and if you smoke it you have little way of knowing what is in it...plus the money just goes to the wrong people.

If it was legal you could grow it or at least have some oversight on how it is grown and what is in it.

All drugs should be legalized. People don't realize that fighting a war on drugs (40 years now) will never work. It is another un-winnable war. But if you end that war profits will be lost. Profits in the prison industry and in the "defense" industry. Some want the entire prison industry privatized. That would mean a new low in our society as people are jailed and kept because of profit(s). Any reason to keep them there (concocted or not) will be used. It is what greedy, selfish people strive for.

Cigarette corporations are the very essence of what most cons stand for. Sell things to people, lie to them, and make a profit no matter what the costs, yes, even if it kills you. I mean... it is your "freedom" to choose.

Alcohol is legal and many people die from it by different means, so any argument to keep certain drugs illegal holds absolutely no weight.

Ciggette makers are HUGE multi-national capitalist GIANTS. Conservatives like those.
Pot growers...arn't.
A lot of consevative don't care about the weed itself, or if somebody is smoking it.
But what they want is a way to make it restrictive enough so that folks like Phillip Morris, and others are the only ones who can grow and sell it....Companies THEY can invest it and get some of that money.....
They can't get rich(er) if some douchebag is growing it in his own yard.

You forgot the Pharmaceutical Industrial Complex and their interests in medical uses. I have friends that grow it locally, legally (for the moment, the Feds want to shut it down), and 200 people the rely on it to keep some quality of life that are under doctor supervision, The Corporate State does not concern itself with consequence and blowback, only cash flow.

I have not forgot that at all.

There should be at least th option "None of the Above".

It is considered a gateway drug, which part of the time is true.
People don't operate or perform as well when using it.

I would be a better thing if it was legally more readily available for those who would benefit from it for medical reasons.

NO, Marijuana CANNOT save your life, it does reduce the negative effects of chemotherapy for many people.

Here are some conservative views on the subject:

1) Cigarettes should be controlled because of the fiscal impact.

2) Pot and cigarettes are pesonal choices so the government should get the heck out of regulating any of it.

Both are rational conservative view. Not everyone who is "conservative" or "liberal" has exactly the same take on every topic. When that happens, you no longer have a society, you have a mob.
