We should have a fair tax. Some paying none and some paying most isn't fair.

"Most" as in percentage of income, or in absolute doller amounts? The total tax bill that Mitt Romney recently paid (13% of $21 million) is approximately $2 million, 700 thousand. That's a lot, and more than most people will earn over a lifetime, much less pay for a single year's income tax.

Nobody should have to pay a higher % of tax than anyone else. People shouldn't be penalized for being successful. If people were penalized for being successful where would the incentive be to try and succeed? We may as well all lay around smoking dope and collecting welfare like the liberals do!

One doesn't necessarily NEED a new phone, tv, furniture, certain foods, etc. This is a way to generate revenue in the least burdensome way. You don't want to pay an extra $100 in taxes for that new TV, then don't buy it! Hey, we'd all like no taxes, but if you want a sovereign nation, excellent defense, roads, any non-volunteer help, then you need resources/money.

I go shopping for a need or want and not to throw money around for the heck of it. There's supply and demand; if a company isn't making money, they close or fire people. If they are making money, they can expand and hire more. The idea is that more money in the paycheck becomes more money spent at the store. Dropping income tax and with a higher sales tax, stores lower their prices to get more business, forcing manufacturers to lower their prices, too. This would be deflation.

It sounds to me like you are advocating more taxes, which makes you the liberal. I advocate cutting spending by trillions, both military spending and domestic spending. We should lower ALL taxes but we should focus on the reducing the income tax because that would equate to a promotion for ALL working people. There's my response libby. Now go eat a dick.

We have a progressive system of taxation int he US. This means, the more you make, the higher a percentage of income you pay. For the upper brackets, it has been as high as 94%, which occurred just after WW2. As late as the Johnson administration, it was 70%. About 3 yrs ago a bill was introduced by repugs in the House that raised the upper bracket to 90%. It was supported by Cantor, Boner the Tanman, Kyle, Graham and many other prominent repug, but was never brought up in the Senate.

Our progressive tax system has become perverted. The upper bracket people don't pay anything near what they should pay. Since 1980, the economy has doubled in size. All the vast wealth from this doubling has gone to the upper 5%, taking the money out of circulation and giving them power to keep their taxes low, which they have. Businesses are also sitting on somewhere between 2 and 3 TRILLION in cash because of weak demand. .Spending by the middle class has been reduced because of the reduction in the supply of money, the economy has shrunk and after the banking crisis we don't even have the borrowing power we once had. Worse yet, the slowing of the economy has reduced federal revenue to a point where over 40% of the spending is deficit spending. Cutting spending can only go so far.

There is not an infinite supply of dollars. The situation is exactly like taking 20 kids, putting them around a table and putting 100 marbles on the table, and then giving half the marbles to 1 kid. The other19 kids are left to fight over the remaining 50 marbles. The more one kid collects, the less there are for others. Some will have none. That's where America is now. The only question is how are we going to get the money back into the hands of the middle class again. The economy will not recover fully until that happens. Any reputable economist will tell you that.
