I'm from Massachusetts and our Governor is Deval Patrick. He's in his second term now and he's been a good governor so far.

But let me tell you about our former governor Mitt Romney.....

During his campaign for governor, he promised to lower our taxes. He lowered them all right but only for his wealthy buddies. Then he imposed all kinds of new fees and raised existing fees to cover the shortage left by the tax cuts for the wealthy.

He promised he'd be a job creator....Mass dropped from 37th to 47th in job creation during his tenure.

He promised to reduce our deficit and instead added over one billion dollars to our existing deficit.

The only good thing he did was to create "RomneyCare" our state's universal coverage plan. Everyone can be covered and so far it's working well and people here like it. Unfortunately, it's the one thing he cannot take credit for since it would be taken as an endorsement of Obamacare and he couldn't do that because the far right GOP is against it. If he was honest, he would say, you know what, Obamacare is a great program very much like what I instituted in MASS and I support it fully. But he is too much of "company man" to go against his party even for something that's been proven to be a success. Makes you wonder whose side he's on. Certainly not ours.

Tom Corbett Tom Corbett and no, I don't think so. I'm tired of these so-called presidents and so-called state leaders anymore. None of them will ever be any good as long as the US keeps going like it does.

    Scott Walker...Wis.

He certainly has his eye on a national office and I think it would be wonderful for him to leave this state and run for national office. I think that everyone should be able to share this college drop-out who first of all, owes his allegiance to the Koch Bros. who have poured millions into his coffers. It will save you on the Right from having to donate to his campaign.

First my Governor is believed to be a female. Second, she is widely known to be a lunatic of a sort, given to the most vile outbursts and rantings one could imagine. Third, it is unlikely she could find her way to Washington for her inauguration unless her mentor, Dan Quayle, would drive her there. Fourth, she wouldn't last more than a week before the fifth breakdown would happen and she would be back in alcoholic rehab at Bethesda. No, let's not count on the Governor of Arizona ever being considered for the office of POTUS, or any other office once she is tossed from our Statehouse.

My governor is Scott Walker and, hell yes, he'd make a better president than Obama because he would get the rampant overspending on federal entitlements under control!

Spare me your sympathy. Its funny, when the right gets donations from wealthy people they're somehow "bought" but when national (not state unions) pour tens of millions into Wisconsin in 2011 to start and keep the recalls going thats "Democracy in Action". Walker may have raised $30+ million (because of extra time for fundraising allowed incumbents due to a LAW ((not cheating)) passed by both Dems and Repub over 20 years ago) but the Dems at least equaled that figure when you factor in all of the 2011 union money. Barret only raised $4 million himself this year after the unions fled to Falk. When she lost the primary, his national support dried up (even Obama wouldn't stop in when he was in the area!).

I have no problem with private unions. If a company grows with the help of its workers, of course ALL should share in the profits not just the company. However, public unions are another creature, there are no profits to be shared with public unions. All wages and benefits are costs incurred by taxpayers who have no say because the public sector unions actually can influence who controls the pursestrings! If a school board or city or county official didn't support the union view, they won't get elected. And the taxes and benefit and pension obligations just keep going up. If you don't believe me, look up FDR...he warned against public unions. Labor law was written to protect private unions, even the Federal government doesn't allow colective bargaining in its unions. So how can Walker eliminating collective bargaining for state workers be illegal?

Ill is and has been in a boatload of financial trouble though, haven't they? How do we expect to get out of a lot of these state budget messes if we don't expect our coffers to strengthen? Especially those who have gotten all the breaks and have not, and are not, paying their fair share?

You're never going to solve the problem by raising taxes higher and higher and chasing business and people out of the state, and that's exactly what's happening! Quinn had better get out of bed with the unions and confront the massive pension fund problem; but he won't!

States like Ill. and Wis. (as well as much of the country) are scrambling now, cutting all-important education, infrastructure, worker's wages because those who have benefitted from low tax rates and are supposed to be job creating, aren't. Workers who are paid more than a wage to just barely keep food on the table and a roof over their head, contribute to the coffers. You're never going to solve this problem if you just keep cutting taxes on those who close factories and move jobs off shore and get tax payer help doing it.
  • bill Sissy 2012/07/09 22:48:45

Factories move because taxes are too high. Wisconsin has benefited from high taxes in Illinois.

Ever since Gov. Edgar left office ( 1991 ) ( A Republican ) who left the state with a 1 BILLION SURPLUS, it's been downhill until we have become the number 1 indebted state in the union !

That's about exactly what happened in Wis. Risk. In 1988, Gov. Tony Earl (D) left the state to Tommy Thompson who squadered over a billion surplus dollars that he was left with and when Tommy went off to serve in the first Bush cabinet, a $6 Billion dollar deficit was left for us to clean up. It never has been because the legislatures were scared to death to lead, just like most other states in our position.

I would have to say its a toss-up when it comes to governors and surpluses and a death fear of solving messes that are just kicked down the road for another time.
