Who is really tired of the personal insults?

Gracie - Proud Conservative 2012/08/11 00:41:17
I've been here at SH since 2008 and have managed to interact day after day without being reprimanded in any way. It's really not hard. I've been extremely tolerant of name calling and nastiness. However, I'm over it. From now on if you want to comment on one of my polls or to me, I will no longer take any personal insults and name calling. If I don't allow you to do that, it certainly doesn't mean you won the debate...it just means you have no value to my debate and you need to grow up.

So, how about sticking to the subject and stop with the juvenile insults?
You!

We'll all be better off on this site come 2013. November will be the top of the hill, I don't think we'll be passed the fall out until January (when the inauguration is).

Political, gay marriage and abortion are three of the hot buttons but some people can turn just about anything into a personal bash.

True, I tend to stay away from politics on here now, people get so nasty. Back in 09 I disagreed with some man's poll on here I never once said anything bad to him at all and he took it as an insult and went running to SH staff like a baby and lied and said I called him all kind of names and I got deactivated for 48 hrs due to that idiot.

They usually look at the proof, it's all there. If someone says something extremely vile to me, I take a screen shot. I don't report every little violation but egregious ones I do. Then, I have the proof because many people edit their posts.

I don't know if they did or not back then, all I know is the next day when I logged on I was deactivated and it lasted 48 hrs. Karma paid that person a visit later anyway, turns out I wasn't the only one he disliked, many complained about him and he was eventually banned.

Someone mentioned that we can edit our comments; maybe he hid the truth. Like those Ilbombya fans. I've learned to stay clear of politicians campaigns. It's all hyperbole and raises my level of frustration. Stress kills and absolute stress kills absolutely. When I was writing on Op-EDs site, I got into some fun debates but I started to see - much worse than what you complain of - nasty nasty nasty and somehow found SH a couple of weeks ago.

SH isn't a bad place I guess but like any site it does have some crazies on it and I really mean crazy, I know from personal experience, be careful who you talk to or meet from here.

Yes, one side claims tolerance and has none. I understand this as most do. Their radical agenda is not popular so they have to claim intolerance, then show none.

I've always felt if someone has to resort to name-calling, they're immature.

I also feel those who can't take it are crybabies, and don't belong here, either. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

If someone calls me a name, and many conservatives have, I dismiss it as part of their nature, knowing they will continue to do so because they either don't like my opinion, or they can't take or understand the facts. I'm the adult, they're the child...that's how I look at it.

I don't block them, because that's cowardly and immature, as well. I just ignore them, and like pesky insects, they usually go away.

In fact, the one thing I don't like about SH is the blocking feature. It promotes cowardice, and provides a safe haven to those who can't debate, can't argue, or are afraid of other peoples opinions. And for me, being a coward is about s low as you can get.

I think blocking is used for many things but to make the assumption it's all about being a coward is not true. Just because someone blocks you doesn't mean they're a coward, it can mean a variety of things. I've never blocked anyone who has been decent and at least had some form of debate. If I think about blocking any one, I first give them my reasons and ask them to stop what I find offensive. I've had people that have actually changed the tone and we continue debating. I've had others who don't and I have blocked them.

I do not think this combative nature is healthy. And, also, please explain the difference between a Conservative and a Liberal. You must be referring to party lines. And I agree about blocking. I think I had a young person comment and then block me from responding this morning. This is a cowardly tactic of the weak.

the people on that rave if you think gay people should be able to get married question are the worst i have seen yet! teh supporters are seeking out people who dont agree with it and being really mean, saying stuff like they are retarded, should go comit suicide, ugly, calling them bigot, and so many other pointles, rude, and other hurtful things to so many people that they dont even know. its childish, rude, and silly. besides, i thought that cussing and calling names was only cool in grade school, not for civilized adults.

some of the gay supporters on there are real extremists and are not proving a point on being rude to others who donät support them. when i seen this question the gay marrige one was the first thing that came to my mind. the people on that poll that are being downright rude need to cool their nickers.

People that seem to hate are the ones calling other people haters? I personally think that's why they are so unhappy, not because they can't marry, but because they aren't really happy with themselves.

they made the question for opinions. but tehy get mad at all opinions that are not the same as thiers. which is unfair. all people are entitled to their own opinion. seeking out people of opposite opinions just to be rude to them and pick a fight is wrong if you ask me. saying they should comit suicide for not supporting the gay comunity is wrong. calling them retards is hurtufl. they are not making their cause any better by being extremists and hurting the feelings of others. if they want to gain support then should try being nicer. the meaner they are the more people they drive away from thier cause. i can definately say that based on how mean they have been to the non supporters they lost the chance of gaining them on their side and will most likely not gain their support at all now. kill them with kindness and give respect to gain respect is what i was always told.

That's my main complaint about gay marriage, just because I don't agree doesn't make me a hater and I'm as entitled to my opinion as they are to theirs. Mutual respect is important.

Yes yes yes. They are much like the global warming folks of today or the earthquake folks of yesteryear. They begin with a cause, they don't totally understand or understand the other side of, and label it a given. An unimpeachable, unquestionable given of near Godly proportions. So whenever anyone questions their cause they are on unknown ground and react violently. Again anytime someone says those dangerous words "The end justifys the means, run for cover and arm yourself. A battle will rage. Ha ha ha

    Thank you,
I totally agree with you. To the SodaHead people--we may have a difference of opinion, especially when it comes to politics and religion--that is your God given right--but that does not give you the right to insult and disrespect me. Debates can be fun--if you do not invade my boundaries.
So far I have put up with it--I have not blocked anybody yet? But I will..........

You are giving those who insult, the power to effect you. That is never a good path to take. It has been a common tactic since the 60's and up until recently has been very effective. While on SH it isn't as effective, but I find, in person laughing directly in the face of someone who uses name calling and cussing in a debate, very effective. The only way to show the world how stupid and childish the progressives are is to let them show themselves as unworthy adversaries. Do what you like Gracie, I will always choose to let them provide how idiotic they are.

I believe that many of them doing it are sockpuppets. I don't see their value. I've felt much like you do but I've decided that time is too valuable to waste on those who are only interested in childish rhetoric and perhaps they'll find they can take a different path.
