White Student Returns Scholarship Intended for Blacks: Should Color-Based Scholarships Exist?

It should be based on merit!

everything in life from scholarships to hiring and promotions should be based on merit not color!

There are Scholarships for people with an Irish background , Italian background, Greek background. However you racist only care when it for someone with an African background . BTW white people get the most scholarships per capita, you people will not be happen until black people get nothing at ALL.

I don't think they should be illegal, but they are detrimental to race relations in my opinion. Would African-Americans be okay if there was a whites-only scholarship? I was frankly shocked by how many potential scholarships my daughter was not qualified for simply because she was white, her parents were married to each other, she was an only child, and we worked. There are few scholarships out there that are simply based on merit, believe it or not.

There are de facto white only scholarships any whites get the most scholarships any way.

Ireland has 1% black people and the number i Greece is so Small it is not even a Percent . So as I said is is a De facto white scholarship. And this is what I love about people like yourself . You have scholarships that are open to 99% white people , and 99.5 person white people . Than have gall to complain about a scholarship for black people. And most of the black Confederates were things like slaves, labors , and cooks .

You are say those scholorships I listed but is not open to 99.9% of the black people in America . but because of that .01 can get it you don't think black people should have any scholarships of there own . .Anyway would it make you people happy if we changed all scholarships open to black people . To make it open to African-Americans . And since there are a few white people from Africa than it would be just like the Irish Scholarships that technically is open but black people but no black person ever gets.

Everyone deserves a fair shake, they don't deserve it however based on their skin color.

Whites can probably create their own color-based scholarship. I don't know of any laws against it.

Anyone should be able to create any scholarship they like according to the standards they believe in. If I want to create a scholarship for roller skating transvestites, I should have that right.

If everyone is supposed to be created EQUALLY then it should also mean scholarships. Also, I think parents citizenship should be checked before a full ride scholarship is given to Mexicans. Only because they get more of the scholarships than anyone else in Washington state. And most admit their parents are illegals.

Segregation is is long over, and racism is on the decline, so in my opinion a scholarship like this no longer has a place in this society.

To be perfectly honest with you I think that any scholarship that disenfranchises any one be it by race religion nationality or sex has no place in our society. Scholarships should be based solely on academic and athletic achievement.

Offering a financial advantage to a previously discriminated race/ethnicity/etc is a good idea. I'd do it if I had the cash. I'd offer a scholarship to a female student of the same race as I am.

Your right but I have friends and family that are black and I think a lot of times they don't get a fair shake. At the same time, the more we put one above the other or below the other, it keeps racism alive and strong. It's wrong either way you look at it.
