I'm no liberal Voice. I am as Conservative as they come. My point was that those who work hard and achieve success should be rewarded with the scholarship vs receiving it based solely on the color of a persons skin.

Affirmative action served a purpose to give blacks disadvantaged by poor schools a chance to pursue higher education, but it also reinforced the notion that color makes people different in some significant way. All mention of race needs to be eliminated.

I think it is wrong to give a scholarship based on skin color. They should be given to whomever has worked hard for them and or those who are in need, regardless of their skin color.

Agreed 100% however due to Political Correctness Progressive Liberals want those who do not work hard and who do not achieve success to be rewarded and PUNISH those who do work hard and achieve success. I find it insulting to minorities that they are told that its OK NOT to work hard. That you'll be rewarded based only upon the color of their skin vs their ability to be all they can be through sacrifice and hard work. I don't see how handing something over to someone who has not earned it helps them to feel good about themselves or helps them to achieve success when they enter the real world. It's a good thing that boy returned it. He clearly didn't deserve (He received three scholarships). And Research even shows 75 percent of college scholarships go to non-Hispanic white students even though such students are only 62 percent of the overall student population. http://www.finaid.org/scholar... It is not just race and it’s not just scholarships. high school seniors like that boy come from high socioeconomic status families tend to already be better-prepared for college than kids from low-socioeconomic status families, that means that financial aid resources naturally flow to the high-socioeconomic status students.

Across the board, the way higher education works in America is to deliver the most resources to the people who need the least help. And the students who tend to be the most needy of scholarships are the minority. I don't know how make this any simpler.

Scholarships should be based on Academic Performance/Achievement. Not based on the color of a persons skin. MLK said as much. I wonder how you feel about that rapper who has 600 million dollars in the bank and his son received a scholarship to attend college. He isn't giving it back. But I suppose its OK being that he is black. Race should NEVER be a factor.

It wasn't about his race that he received the scholarship. It was because the Institution that awarded the "merit scholarship " to him didn't factor in his his financial need when they should have.
