Ron Paul commands the most votes from those who are not republican establishment, and those are the votes needed to defeat Obama. All the other candidates are establishment choices, who will most probably not garner ANY crossover votes, causing Obama to obtain a second term.

Sorry if you people don't like those facts, but they are the reality of the situation.

no! why is it so hard to get this? yes the state wants back anything it paid for your care if you receive a settlement etc. sheesh.

Most people do not receive settlements. Most people correctly have payments made to medical professionals on their behalf. For these people there is no way to pay back what was paid on their behalf.

For people who receive settlements, the court looks to see if they received money from the state and pays it back before paying the settlement. It still isn't the individual paying.

And again, I think we are agreeing that if there is a settlement or fraud, the court arranges repayment to the state. In normal circumstances, there is no way to pay back payments made on one's behalf through medicaid. I could ask you the same thing. Why is this so hard for you to get?
  • sue irish -... 2012/04/07 11:23:29

OK. What settlement are you talking about? There was no settlement, the insurance company refused to pay. That was the reason for the trip down town in the first place. Obviously, if they had paid, the state would not have. In fact, you have to show the refusal by the insurance company before the state will pay. There is no way to pay in. I'm sure she knows more than you.

i hardly think your "friend" knows what she is talking about based on the incorrect info you spout.
who said anything about insurance? any expenditures by the state will require reimbursement by the recipient if at any time the recipient is found to have the resources to pay. now or later, the state doesn't care.

Please read the original post. It was about receiving benefits and offering to pay back and being told that there was no way to do it. It was an interaction with an employee at the Medicaid office, not a friend.

Are you saying you were uninsured and admitting that the state would have covered your expenses? There you have it. You have successfully demonstrated how people not covered by insurance cost the state money. They should pay a small tax penalty if they don't buy insurance to cover it. Also, it is likely that the settlement was paid directly to the state and that you did not pay back medicaid.

You are such a fool. My family consisted of 7 kids, six being in the car accident, my dad could not cover it. It was when I was 18. My sister died in it and I broke my neck and my brother was in a body cast for 6 months. The state paid for it, that's damned right and it was paid back as soon as we settled the case against the car place. Get off your freaken high horse. You make me sick you heartless basta..

Usually insurance would cover it. That's all I'm saying. I'm very sorry for your loss. However, you seem to think it's ok belittling other people's medical needs. Maybe you should look in the mirror.

Part of the reason costs are so high is that hospitals eat much of the cost of uninsured patients. Some is covered by Medicaid, but some isn't. They make it up by marking the prices up on everything. If you have insurance, the companies do not pay the full costs, so the hospitals jack them up so that the partial payment covers. People are double screwed if they don't have insurance because they also have no bargaining power. You are correct that the prices are high. Doctors pay a huge fee for malpractice insurance, and OB/GYN insurance is even higher because so many things can go wrong with newborns. Many OB/GYNs are limiting themselves to GYN services only to limit their liability.

The amount of taxes that go to welfare, medicaid, medicare, and food stamps is actually quite high. I don't mind paying for these programs. What I do mind is paying higher costs for health care and higher taxes to cover people that are completely capable of buying their own insurance -- the people who would be covered by the mandate. I don't mind helping people who need it, but people who can afford insurance and choose not to buy it should not end up being a financial burden for the rest of us who do the responsible thing and buy insurance.

with over 45 million unemployed ,who can afford it? the problem also is that when people have health insurance they tend to run to the doctor for every little thing. thats a big problem.
actually comparing welfare ,food stamps etc to the budgets for other unnecessary expenditures by the govt, its quite small. the govt needs to rein in its foreign aid and military budget. just think of all the good they could create if they stopped wasting money on killing people.
  • sue irish -... 2012/02/19 13:37:56

People with insurance don't go to the doctor more than they need to. Who does that? It's still a pain to take off work and get an appointment even though it is paid for. THey do go more than people who are uninsured, because they are more likely to go for annual checkups. (This actually reduces the cost of health care over time, because illnesses are caught earlier and subsequently require less expensive treatment with greater success.)

I agree with you that we waste a lot on wars. I believe the Iraq War is the single biggest mistake made by a US administration in my lifetime. However, if you look at welfare (12%), (Medicaid and Medicare (23%), and Social Security (20%), social programs do make up a good deal of the budget. Of course it is a bigger waste that 6% goes to interest payments, and 19% goes to the military. If you compare military to welfare alone, it is greater -- that is correct. The real killer is that only 18% is dicretionary. It's really difficult to have a balanced budget when you are not supposed to touch over 80% of it.

you think not? you would be surprised. when my daughter was in the army she couldn't take her kids to the er because it was always packed with the elderly and not urgently sick because it was cheaper to get their meds refilled there at the base hospital which was open to the public.
i can't tell you how many times whan my kids were little that a urgent trip to the er was necessary for them, broken arm, high fever, pneumonia etc and the er was filled with kids that were running around but the parents brought them to the er. same with doctor's offices. my daughters mother in law goes to the doctor for every little thing.
the problem with america is that too many people think they HAVE to see a doctor for inconsequential things. doctors are not in the business of prevention .

and in the greater scheme of things, the social programs don't even make a blip on the screen of expenditures.
  • sue irish -... 2012/02/19 14:24:33
    sue
The people that go to the ER for non-emergency care are usually the uninsured -- that's where they can go with no insurance. I don't know about the occasional hypochondriac like your daughter's inlaw, but for anyone I've ever met, going to a doctor is not really on their top 1,000,000 list of things they like to do.

A good doctor is certainly in the business of preventing worse health.

In the greater scheme of things, the social programs make up 55% of the budget.

I agree. Even when Ron Paul was tied for second, they would not mention him as a contender. I don't know if they "blocked" him, but they certainly have never given him the attention due someone who was just as much in the race as the others.

but it shouldnt be about democrat or republican... there are many other political parties running for office. it shouldn't be based just on these two. let the others have their say and vote for whoever is going to do the better job. too many people are focused on gay marriage, abortion, immigration, global warming etc. theyre so staunch on these issues thats why they vote the way they do.
