I depend on the government for certain things, and I fear the government from encroaching on my rights. Every time we give the government power to protect us or give us something, the government has to take something to accomplish this. Either it takes our money or our rights.

If we want to stop hate speech, we outlaw some forms of speech. If we want the gov't to provide healthcare, we need to pay the tax and may lose the option for private healthcare motivated by profit.

    Economy & Jobs

Our economic well being is dependent upon responsible public servants carrying our their pledge to preserve, protect and defend the constitution of the United States. Based upon that we should be striving to reduce spending, pay down the monumental debt we have created and balance the budget in real terms. If we would do so, jobs would be plentiful and both sides of the aisle would come closer to having what they want. So, again, the most important issue is that elected officials properly understand, interpret and follow the Constitution of the United States. Wouldn't that be a refreshing change, Barbara?

It is as we realize, maintain, take responsibility with and from our civil liberties that we can best deal with all the other issues nominated here. Even the more progressive and leftist Ms. Boxer has the disease or blindness of power where our supposed representatives do not represent us as much as they become matronizing or patronizing, and/or in their addiction to office and power and ego become ever more swayed by their wealthy backers (and sycophants), be they corporations, lobbies, or singular agenda groups.

Complete and Honest representation by elected officals is my first choice but since it wasn't an option I figured I'd add it here.

    By the By,
    Is this a recognition poll?
A poll done in the usual underhanded methods of our political leaders today?
Are you takeing advantage of a public website to gauge your name recognition value?
There is a respond button if you care to use it!
ONCE AGAIN by further investigation and a deeper look into BARBIE's site I find she is RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION, and trying to get support from the people here on SODA HEAD.I hope the people here on SODA HEAD react with their usual good sense!

What would be interesting is to actually see BARBARA BOXER come here and interact with all these neocons instead of having one of her flunkies just post these polls and then NEVER bother to reply to any of them ...

Why do you waste your employee's time here, BARBARA? ... Better to have them do some filing in your office ... or donate their time to a homeless shelter ... or they can carry your BAGS when you check in to your next resort destination in KONA ... (what's this your 25th year there now?) ...

Politicians are the wealthy elite in this country ... their performance (and that's all it is) does not impress me in the least ...

Did you know there are 5 MILLION orphans in Iraq? ... What are the FAT, overpaid, lazy, worthless congress people doing this holiday season to help these orphans ...

Give back all your salaries THEN I'll believe you ... give back every dime any of you have ever made making deals or through your connections ... THEN I'll believe you ... GIVE up your limos and your private planes and your privileges ... THEN and only then will I listen to any of you again ...

    Here's the real issue ... http://youtube.com/watch?v=9d...

120 US war veteran suicides a week

    November 15, 2007 09:47am

THE US military is experiencing a "suicide epidemic" with veterans killing themselves at the rate of 120 a week, according to an investigation by US television network CBS.

At least 6256 US veterans committed suicide in 2005 - an average of 17 a day - the network reported, with veterans overall more than twice as likely to take their own lives as the rest of the general population.

While the suicide rate among the general population was 8.9 per 100,000, the level among veterans was between 18.7 and 20.8 per 100,000.

That figure rose to 22.9 to 31.9 suicides per 100,000 among veterans aged 20 to 24 - almost four times the non-veteran average for the age group.

"Those numbers clearly show an epidemic of mental health problems,'' CBS quoted veterans' rights advocate Paul Sullivan as saying.

CBS quoted the father of a 23-year-old soldier who shot himself in 2005 as saying the military did not want the true scale of the problem to be known.

"Nobody wants to tally it up in the form of a government total,'' Mike Bowman said.

"They don't want the true numbers of casualties to really be known.''

    http://www.news.com.au/herald...

Mike Bowman told the panel: Our son was just one of thousands of veterans that this country has lost to suicide. I see every day the pain and grief that our family and extended family goes through in trying to deal with this loss. Every one of those at risk veterans also has a family that will suffer if that soldier finds the only way to take the battlefield pain away is by taking his or her own life. Their ravished and broken spirits are then passed on to their families as they try to justify what has happened. I now suffer from the same mental illnesses that claimed my son’s life, PTSD, from the images and sounds of finding him and hearing his life fade away, and depression from a loss that I would not wish on anyone.

    Civil Liberties

I want the trend of picking on Christians, while "not offending" other minor religions, to stop. I say "minor" not meaning that the religion is not important to the people who uphold it, but merely to indicate that there are religions that have very few followers that are being "protected" from some supposed "offense" by taking away the rights and traditions of Christians, who live in this nation that was founded on Christian values. Our founding fathers never wanted us to have Christian values removed from our country, and certainly not from our government. Just read the things they wrote, and you would know that! They just didn't want there to be a particular church that the government would require everyone to join (like the Church of England).

    Civil Liberties

Absolutely. Everything else is worthless without our civil liberties.

I think Americans overreacted to 911. We were all too willing to throw away our liberties in trade for protection from subsequent attacks. Britons, however, have stared terrorism in the face for decades without giving up their essential freedoms. Finally, Americans who live without their liberties have (already) been vanquished by Islamic Radicals and the Taliban.

I want and think that others deserve, regardless of their status of citizenship, the freedom to plan, coordinate, and attack targets within the United states without the fear of retribution. I want all people who attack America to be given comforts and freedoms that would not, and have not been afforded to any of the victims of terrorist attacks. I want a big hug for all our enemies, and to buy them all a Coke.

warming running close second but the state this country is in because of immigration is also a byproduct of weak gov which in turn addresses terrorism so if enough leaders would tuffin up and enforce laws on the books we could free up some time for things like warming not just illegals taking jobs, using up state resourse's, commiting crime and acts of terror

    Immigration

Alot of these are big issues, but I think immigration is the most crucial one. One thing most politicians fail to understand is this:

Illegal aliens are criminals. The very word in the term, ILLEGAL, means they are breaking their country's law to get here and our country's law by coming here.

Plus, if you want to come here, learn goddamn English! Why the hell are we practically making Spanish our second language? We are only accommodating the Mexicans. When the schools make us learn Spanish it gives the Mexicans no incentive to learn English and contribute to society. Why bother to learn English when everyone is learning your language? It's all a load of shit.

I chose terrorism because IF we don't control terrorism (whether it's from another country or homegrown) it will control us!

However, I really would have chosen education if terrorism was not there because with education all things are possible and that covers the rest of the list.

We pay for Congress to have the very best it time for the American people [all] to share in there wealth of health. If we all worked together there would be no need for money and war!

If we worked together, we'd still have war because people like Hitler and Stalin would exist. They encouraged people to work together... just under their vision of a "perfect society".

When you say we have leeches sucking at the funds for healthcare (and other things), you can see why "working together" doesn't always work since some don't work at all. How do you get those to work that would rather leech? I agree that we should have a more common goal as humankind. I just don't think socialism will provide the solution.

Yes, we need to eliminate collusion and price fixing, but at the same time allow companies to get motivated by profits because the shareholders (often gov't pension funds) will invest in companies who can make money -- and these investments lead to great research and development that create super-drugs and energy alternatives that save lives, reduce our dependency on foreign oil, create cleaner environments, etc...
