I think quite a few worked outside the home. Barbara Bush first worked at a Lord & Taylor department store in Greenwich, Connecticut, then a nuts and bolts factory that provided supplies for the U.S. war effort Laura Bush was a second grade teacher and worked in a library. Hillary Clinton was a lawyer. One thing I can say as a working mom, you can't do it without good people that don't get enough credit - the daycare providers and nannies. The women I have to help me are very appreciated.

Jackie Kennedy was a roaming photographer/reporter for a newspaper, Betty Ford worked as a dancer with Martha Graham then as a Demonstrator in a local department store, Laura Bush as a Librarian/School teacher, Hillary Clinton was a partner in the Rose Law firm in Arkansas, Michelle Obama was an law associate at Sydney Austin law firm in Chicago where she met Barack.
