Islam holds that the Qur’an was revealed to Muhammad by the angel Jibrīl (Gabriel) from 610 AD to his death in 632 AD.[2][6][7] The Qur’an was written down by Muhammad's companions while he was alive, although the prime method of transmission was oral. In 633 AD, the written text was compiled, and in 653 AD it was standardized, distributed in the Islamic empire and produced in large numbers.[8] The present form of the Qur’an is regarded as Muhammad's own words by academic scholars, and the search for significant variants in Western academia has been unsuccessful.[9][10]

the koran was compiled years after the death of mohammad and some of the history of the koran and the hadith ( the life of mohammad) was destroyed. the koran is always accompanied by the hadith and to understand the koran you must read the hadith and vice-versa.

Its not a question of reliability. Judiasm, Islam and Christianity are all Abrahamic religions.
