Selecting an airline often requires choosing the lesser of two (or more) evils. So instead of asking about your favorite, we want to know which airline you hate the least.

According to a recent customer satisfaction survey by J.D. Power and Associates, Jet Blue is the least hated airline in America. The study measured satisfaction with seven key areas: 1) cost and fees, 2) in-flight services, 3) boarding/deplaning/baggage, 4) flight crew, 5) aircraft, 6) check-in, and 7) reservations.

The three airlines that scored the best on the 1,000-point scale were Jet Blue, Southwest, and WestJet—all airlines that don’t charge for checked bags.

So here are the rankings:

1. JetBlue: 776
2. Southwest: 770
3. WestJet: 733
4. AirTran: 698
5. Frontier: 694
6. Alaska: 680
7. Air Canada: 677
8. Delta: 650
9. American: 647
10. United: 625
11. US Airways: 614

What about you SodaHeads? Which airline do you hate the least?

KLM, loved flying with them and they never had a plane crash.

United only because I get direct service to Vietnam from Traverse City, and that means a lot of frequent flier miles and no hassles with luggage.

    I don't have a hatred for airlines

They all have issues and they all basically suck.. TSA doesn't help the situation either.. I tend to fly only United, since I fly over 350K/year and being tied to one airline helps with all the perks of being a frequent flier.. No lines thru security, first to board, easy to change flights, always get first class.. It's hard to change despite the issues at United

Southwest in the states if possible, Delta internationally.

Virgin America. So far I haven't found any bones to pick with them, and their in-flight service is fantastic.

EDIT: Did anyone see the poll regarding Southwest's opinion on a woman's cleavage?
  • Lindy... 2012/06/21 03:56:54
Have never had a bad flight with Southwest! We've always taken off and landed on time, and they have the best prices with no hidden fees.

I freaking hate United. The 2nd last time I flew with them they canceled my flight home while I was on vacation and I signed up for text alerts and they did not bother to notify me until I went to print my itinerary to leave. The last time I flew with them, I booked my flight three months in advance and picked my seats, they switched to a smaller plane and assigned three desperate seats around the plane for me, my wife, and my two year old. I simply asked the gate agent if he could arrange for either me or my wife to sit with my two year old and he refused and went right to rude with not even an apology. I was nice until that point. After that I made quite a scene and two other nice passengers agreed to give up their tickets so my wife could sit with my son. I will never fly with them again.

With customer service like that, it shouldn't take much longer for them to disappear from the scene.

I actually like Virgin. Also, I go to India for work pretty frequently, and have found Emirates to be a great airline as well.

Never ha serious issues with baggage, with being on time, and I enjoy their inflight setup - good legroom, comfortable seats, directTV and music out the nose. I just wish they had more buy on bard options for longer flights so far as real food goes.
  • bbwolf35 2012/06/20 16:36:37
I haven't flown most of these. I chose Delta because they're who I usually get the best rates from on the routes I fly.

    US Airways
I always end up on this airline for some reason. Never had any problems.

For short hops I like South West. Anything over 3 hours American, Overseas Lufthansa.

I'm curious what it is you've liked about Lufthansa. I found them to be average or even slightly unpleasant. A little too coldly German for me perhaps, if you know what I mean (sorry to any Germans here!)
  • Bearish... Grandbr... 2012/06/21 10:53:07
I think it is just that Quality I like, The Regiment, The no nonsense get the job done without the silly small talk and forced smiles. I cant stand the sing song voices and the head tilting smiles that come with feigned interest..
  • Grandbr... Bearish... 2012/06/21 17:17:57
Ah okay. So we've had similar experiences. I guess I enjoy the silly small talk and forced smiles, so Lufthansa wasn't for me...
  • Bearish... Grandbr... 2012/06/22 00:23:55
Funny thing is I did like the banter years ago, But I have experienced too many incompetent screw ups, When I look for a solution, I get a perky smile and no service
  • Grandbr... Bearish... 2012/06/22 14:34:26
Well that's a crappy trade-off. "No service with a smile" is not a good motto...

And just for the record, I hate American Airlines. What an abysmal company. They ran Braniff out of business using underhanded tactics and treat their own employees like doodoo.

Sorry, but their HQ is JFK, so the terminal is fabulous. Plus southwest has had several NASTY flight attendants. They are on board to assist passengers, as well as all the safety stuff. They are NOT there to be obnoxious, condescending and impotent. I travel VERY frequently, and more than once when assisting my disabled, elderly aunt, they were downright RUDE. They KNOW if you preboard in a wheelchair, that you have ability issues, and there is a good chance other health issues! Do NOT tell me you are going to move my overhead baggage (which contains Insulin, and Morphine which by law, I am REQUIRED to keep safe and secure) and move it halfway down the plane to make room for a effing baby stroller that should have been checked in. Then give me an attitude the whole flight because I tell you that if you move my bag, there is going to be trouble. Ultimately, with morphine drops, and fentanyl lollipops, I am responsible for those medications, and can not afford to have them stolen.

This is the Southwest Airlines forever etched in my mind from a flight out of Love Field, Dallas in 1971!!!

I fly 2 to 3 times a month and hate flying ( mainly because of the TSA ) but Delta flies in the areas I usually travel and is better that US air. I like southwest but they don't always fly into the areas I go.

I fly all the time, twice a week, and am forced to use United. I hate united because they have no room between seats.Freaking cattle.I don't like southwest because no seat assignments. They also keep taking away benefits of flight miles...It is all based on the buck, not the customer.. It is not the employees, it is the changing policies.. But all airlines are bad.. Go on JAL or Singapore and see how an airline should treat people. Air travel is something to be put up with, not enjoyed.

"Air travel is something to be put up with, not enjoyed" this is so true. I thought I had it bad flying 2 or 3 times a month. I'll bet you can smell a TSA (criminal) agent from 150 feet away. LOL. I can understand why you're Mad Sam.
  • Katherine madsam 2012/06/20 01:40:28

I've always preferred Southwest. Their fares are usually the lowest, the attendants on the plane tend to be funny and personable, and I like their open seating policies.
