Where's all the war protests?

Cognito22 2012/03/12 16:37:06
There are few things to admire about modern liberals/Progressives/Socialists/Communists or whatever moniker they hide behind nowadays, but one of them was their protests against wars.
So, where is Cindy Sheehan?
Why isn't she camping outside the Hawaii hotel of Barack Obama while he is vacationing in paradise?
Where's all the marches on Washington DC to protest the war in Afghanistan? (now that Bush successfully ousted the dictator in Iraq?)
Where's the protest by the left for Obama bombing Libya?

The Left's silence is deafening.
Must we elect a Republican again for you to find your moral outrage?

I know this is probably a futile effort in trying to understand the warped mind of a liberal, but if there is an ounce of sanity in your reasoning, please use it to explain your lack of protests.
You!

The only thing that Liberals want is to line their pockets with welfare programs.

If they can attack a republican president for any reason, they will do it. However, a Liberal president always gets a free pass on everything.

    1) You obviously have never been to an Occupy rally if you think there are no more war protests
    2) We are already at war. The time to protest is when we are about to get ourselves into a quagmire, not after we have fallen in. That's why you don't see the intensity of protest as you did when the Republicans made the mistake in the first place. Now we need to fix what the Republicans broke.

The fact that you couldn't answer it without resorting to a condescending tone inherent in a Progressive also speaks for itself.
Unless you can recall your last 10,000 incarnations, or project your thoughts through the astral plane to express your opinion, please refrain from resorting to banal expressions intended to imply some sort of enlightened or lofty position.

OWS is about as anti-war as a three year old throwing a temper tantrum in a grocery store. The fact that they have found a commonality in purpose (whining in solidarity) places them somewhere between that cathartic child and a street gang (in their asserted socio-economic strata).

"The Left" was out in force when George W. Bush lied us into two wars and at the same time ripped a bigger hole in our national debt than every penny President Obama has added to it in three years. But unlike those on the Right who rely on Fox to make up facts for them, the Left realizes that President Obama shares their values and priorities. He has already followed through on his promise to end the fighting in Bush's illegal war in Iraq, and he has already implemented plans to get us out of Afghanistan by the end of 2014. Why would anyone protest against someone who is acting to fulfill the will of the American people?

Bush had already set the date for troop withdrawal in Iraq before Obama took office.
    Obama just followed that plan.
Since Obama bypassed Congress with his bombing of Libya (which would be considered an act of war if it was done to us) we'll never know what the will of the people was.

And I'm looking forward to the troop withdrawal in Afghanistan.

President Obama did not bypass congress. He informed the leaders in Congress of his plans. Under the War Powers Act he did not need their "approval". And I guess the Right Wing is still trying to come up with a remotely rational response to the fact that President Obama cooperated with our allies to accomplish a goal that didn't cost the United States a single life while George Bush ignored our allies to pursue a similar goal that cost us over 5,000 brave American soldiers and didn't even accomplish its stated objectives. Not to mention that President Obama's actions cost the United States less than 1/10 of 1% of the cost of Bush's games in Iraq.

" . . he did not need their "approval"."
    You said it, I didn't.
It was your contention he was doing the will of the people.
I think your scenario best describes the methods of a dictator than the methods of a Republic or Democracy.
The War Powers Act was enacted in a time of war. For the purposes of conducting a War more efficiently. I wasn't aware we were at war with Libya.
Did you mean the War Powers Resolution?

    From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
The War Powers Resolution was disregarded by President Reagan in 1981 by sending military to El Salvador, by President Clinton in 1999, during the bombing campaign in Kosovo, and by President Obama in 2011, when he did not seek congressional approval for the attack on Libyan forces, arguing that the Resolution did not apply to that action, and again when troops entered Pakistan to kill Osama bin Laden. All incidents have had congressional disapproval, but none have had any successful legal actions taken against the president for violations.[2][3] All presidents since 1973 have declared their belief that the act is unconstitutional.

    1. Combat troops have left Iraq
    2. We never had any troops on the ground in Libya
    3. Troops are being withdrawn fairly quickly from Afghanistan, now that Obama has eliminated bin Laden.

There isn't much for an anti-war person to protest.

Odumbo does love wars....he ramped up the troop deployment in Afghanistan....did and around-about of Congress so he could declare an illegal war on Libya while allowing 30,000 SAM's to be looted from the weapons stores of Kadaffi, has boots on the ground in other parts of Africa, is conducting secret wars that he's keeping from the American public and has made a sport of killing innocent people with drones if they happen to be in the vicinity of a supposed terrorist....his bloodlust seems unending and there's nothing for the Left to protest about...oh yeah I forgot, Odumbo's a Democrat and Black....so he gets a pass on all of this lest anyone calling him out will be branded as always a racist

Did he not ramp up troop numbers to Afghanistan?
Did he get Congress 'Approval' to start a war in Libya?
Did he not allow 30K+ SAM's to fall into terrorists or others hands...started the bombing campaign without first securing these missles or destroying them them outright with their non-stop bombing
Does he not have 'boots on the ground' in Africa in various countries?
Have 'his' drones not killed many innocents in his search to kill supposed terrorists?

He didn't need Congressional approval under the WPA. All it requires is that he notify Congress, which he did. Also, it is likely that the WPA didn't even apply, since we as a nation did not attack Libya but only participated in a joint operation with NATO nations. NATO exists by reason of a treaty which Congress ratified, and as such that treaty has the same force and effect as the Constitution (See Article 6). I do have my doubts about the constitutionality of the WPA, but I won't get into that now.

Some contend lots of things; that doesn't make it so. The ones who do seem to be deliberately undermining the stability of our nation are the Republicans in Congress, who took a pledge the day he took office to block anything and everything he wanted to do no matter what harm it did to the nation.

In fact, the President is probably the most "competent" President we've ever had.

The recent statements by Leon Panetta and joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey, to the effect that they are under no obligation to the Congress to seek their permission to start wars. Both Panetta and Dempsey claim their authority comes from the United Nations and NATO.

These were clear and unambiguous declarations of submission to foreign governments, agencies and organizations and ended with the dismissing of the Constitution as not applicable to them or their decisions. I have to wonder why both men were not frog-marched out of the meeting and straight to jail. But then, we are talking about the District of Criminals here and we know it is rare that anyone from the District ever goes to jail no matter how anti-American, unlawful or unconstitutional or treasonous their activities or views.
