I actually didn't know about it until after the towers were down. I had spent a rare day with my mom and we didn't have the radio or TV on. When I got home, there were messages on my service, that's how I found out about my cousin. I still hope he was killed instantly and wasn't in pain. I remember people walking from downtown toward the Queensboro bridge covered in white dust, black smoke from downtown and that distinctive smell of burnt flesh as well as chemicals in the air for weeks afterward. Got to see Ground Zero about a week later with sights that would absolutely break your heart and hardened your resolve that whoever did it would suffer the consequences of their heinous action.reply

Still in a sleepy state I saw replays of the jets crashing into the buildings and the buildings collapsing. People were running down the street with a dust storm behind them.reply
