When did political dissent become racism?

Throughout history, there has been political dissent by the people toward a sitting president. Until Barack 0bama assumed the Oval Office, it was always called a difference in ideology.

Political dissent, in my opinion, is one thing that has always made this nation great. But now it seems I and others have to defend myself/ourselves when I/we disagree with Barack 0bama. I support many other candidates (and have voted that way as well) who are not white/Caucasian, (including a black presidential candidate several years ago in a primary.)

The way I see it is that because my differing views with 0bama have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with racism (and I'm far from being alone in this,) my conclusion is that the ones who accuse me and others of racism are actually projecting their own racism onto others because there are so many of us who disagree with him and race is something that never even enters our minds. The same cannot be said for those who falsely accuse people of racism where there is no racism to be found.

When Empty Suit ran for President.
Don't you remember Hillary shrieking about how it was "patriotic" to dissent from Bush's policies?
    Democraps are FRAUDS.

It started when politicians learned that it is easier to discredit people, than debate them on the issues..... especially when their position is flawed to begin with.

I think you are correct Marie in your analogy that those that scream racism are actually the racists, considering most that scream racist/racism are black, and that the President is ½ white.

What about all those who scream that Obama is a racist?

Since I can't reply to you thanks to the pitiful cowardice of Marie/M2M2K, I'll list a couple examples for you here. Glenn Beck ( http://www.politico.com/blogs... ), Kelley Anderson Wright ( http://www.americanthinker.co... ), The people behind and who have signed this petition ( http://www.petition2congress.... ), all the Sodahead members you find in every poll about Obama who claim he's racist....lots of folks. So, does that make THEM racists?

As soon as Obama threw in his hat and the Dems realized he would defeat Hillary. They had to support him in any way that they could. Problem was he had no real experience, had no actual voting record nor had he ever actually been in a leadership position so all they had was to call anyone a racist that had an opposing or even dissenting opinion of Obamas policies or agenda. Racism it is the last argument of a limited mind!

I don't think that it started with Obama. I believe the moment race was made into a political opportunity the things that could be connected to race became automatic third rail material. These people that we put up there are for the most part empty headed power seekers and they will do anything to get more power. It happens to be worse on the Democrat side but it is still in both parties. The best way to get rid of vermin is to cut the food supply so it should be obvious to all Americans that reducing the role of federal government is the quickest way to reduce the food supply that these miscreants survive on.

It's just one of the Alinsky tactics to discredit your opponent and change the argument. The race card in a debate is equal to the white flag of surrender...because as soon as they play it, it means they have no valid argument to make and can not refute what you have said. Bring it on libs, call me a racist all you want! I wear it as a sign of victory and a badge of honor! ;)

Yes, well many of them probable don't know who he is. They have just had this stuff pounded into their heads in school and by the media, their union leaders, church leaders and politicians and are being used as pawns and have no idea they are assisting in their own enslavement to the state. The quintessential "useful idiots"!

True. There was a report out that shows that over 100 of our colleges and universities now require freshman to take a day's course on the history of ethnic groups in our country. These orientations all talk about how different races were abused and mistreated during our country's history. This is really great at keeping ethnic groups divided, and throwing mud at our country and our sense of exceptionalism. I thought how very sad that our students must first learn how bad our country is, instead of why they should be proud to live here, and the opportunites that are open to all.

I know, it is really sad and disgusting and it is why so many now loath their own country and vote for people like obama.
Diversity is fine, but these morons need to realize that what has made us great is unity not diversity. It was people from all over the world, from different cultures and religions and ethnic backgrounds, coming here and becoming Americans. We need to stop focusing on how we are different and work together as Americans and save our country.

"We call things racism just to get attention. We reduce complicated problems to racism, not because it is racism, but because it works."

I have a number of issues with calling racism where none exists. First, it's a powerful word, it renders suspect everything said in the debate by the accused, whether they were valid points or not. Second, I feel that it's overuse takes away some of that power. It NEEDS to be a powerful word, there is real racism in the world, overuse of the word just desensitizes people to it. Third it makes me think that people are thinking racism where there could be a number of other logical explanations for a difference of opinion. It waters down and corrupts open debate, political or otherwise.

If anything people who are against Progressives/Obama and his administration are anything but racist. They are the ones who wouldn't give terrorist Rebels 30 billion dollars who are slaughtering Africans (black). If anything they would want to end the high unemployment that skyrocketed for black people under Obama.

Political dissent becomes 'racism' when the ruling party wants to attack dissenters without actually discussing policy.

"They want to end the Fed? Better just call them racists and move on, if we discuss it openly we'll have the whole nation wanting to end the Fed."
