In the middle ages windmills and watermills were taxed by both secular and church governments. They were viewed as being "labour saving" and therefore a supply of labour themselves. Legal foolery, but there you go. It was determined that they should be taxed.
latter on this was applied in common law and was expanded to include Charters and Corporations, both being means of wealth accumilation. latter it was determined that to be fair, if they were to be taxed as intities they deserved a voice as entities.
I don't know just how accurate this is, but it was related by an economics Prof. at school.
They always were. Any joint-stock corporation has investors who own it. In the end, some person or persons owns the stock, directly or indirectly. Those investors have certain rights. I suspect that some people want to destroy all private investments.
The whole 'corporations aren't people' talking point is the left's attempt to restrict the right of citizens to organize into groups that can effectively campaign against government policies they oppose according to their constitutional rights of lawful assembly. The organized institutions and bureaucracies of government are better prepared to control and oppress individual citizens than united entities such as corporations which level the playing field of power.
You just can't admit you have nothing to teach, can you? You only want to demonize corporations without bothering to allow any understanding of their purpose to penetrate your own hard head. That's why you'll only fling personal insults and trash talk rather than engage my argument.
And what do YOU know about the subject of which you have studiously avoided divulging any of your pearls of wisdom about while indulging in your childish trash talk the last few days?
Basically that corporations were once strictly controlled and regulated for the common good, whereas now they have gained the right to exist and do as they please. Check out my blog, "Corporations, once our servants now our masters", and see if you find it interesting. http://www.sodahead.com/unite...
What is commonly referred to as the The Common Good is in reality only good for Washington politicians and bureaucrats. The free citizens of the private sector are far more qualified to decide for themselves what their common good is. And to form corporations independent of government to pursue their common good.
A corporation cannot exist without Americans to establish it. A corporation isn't a 'thing' but the expression of people's livelihoods, philosophies and pursuit of happiness. Denying a corporation's civil legitimacy is as consequential as denying our individual sovereignty as free citizens.
The Socialist Capitalist hybrid you're describing is something other than a corporation. The "right of the people peaceably to assemble" is part of our first amendment. A corporation is an assembly of people united for a common purpose. Obama and the left are threatened by any organized assembly of people that is not subject to government ideology. That's what's behind all their "corporations are not people" rhetoric. I'm surprised a Libertarian like yourself would buy into their propaganda.
The founding fathers were themselves a corporation. If they weren't organized to form a new government and defeat the British all this would have never happened.
Denying rights to a corporation leaves us as vulnerable individuals to the burden of every intimidation and liability by the government. Independently organized assemblies of individuals are the first things despots target to consolidate their absolute control.
There are good corporations and bad corporations but a corporation is still a legal entity formed by conscientious individuals. Now don't start feeling frustrated just because the "corporations are not people" bumper sticker is all you've got for your empty debating points.
I'd rather get the government out of the business of following everybody's money. Starting with the repeal of the 16th amendment and no less than a 75% roll back of the Internal Revenue Service. Generating wealth either as an individual or as a corporation isn't a criminal offense and I place the specter of suspicion rather on those who treat it as such.

it is a lie-
a legal fiction-
designed to protect the elite from their own misdeeds...
while they continue reaping the spoils-
also serves as a veil...
to hide them-
some of us are not fooled-

socialist capitalist hybrid-
if a corp is not a "thing" it is not a person-
if it is not a person...
our individual sovereignty...
is irrelevant to that-
the bill of rights was penned for individuals...
not collectives-
your explanation assumes many givens...
that are simply false-
and irrelevancies-
corps can have legitimacy ...
without being classed as persons-
The "right of the people peaceably to assemble" is part of our first amendment. A corporation is an assembly of people united for a common purpose. to such a point-
you have to be kidding me-
i sincerely doubt ...
the founding fathers ...
were envisioning corporate lobbyists there-
giving equal rights to a corp...
reduces the value of those rights ...
to us real people-
assemble all you want-
but your "group"...
does not become a legal person-
the despots...
are found on the donor lists of both partys-
now how clear is that???
in govt...
business...
and the illusion of an economy...
is how it outta be-
it is these imbalances ...
and deceits...
...these ploys...
that frustrate me-
i subscribe to...
the "follow the money" adage-
which meshes quite tidily...
with the "KISS" rule-
simple and clear...
is how reality almost always manifests-
the complexity is redesigner dressings-
who is the redesigner???
follow the money-
siphoning it from local economys...
for a collective...
should be-
honest wealth...
is generated thru production-
siphoning away the fruit of our labor ...
to their ivory towers-
they feed off govt...
like welfare whores-
they have hijacked the political realm in dc and on down-
they killed mom n pop-
corps by their very centralized nature...
mimic the bloated govt...
and centralized power of communism/fascism-
they just dress in capitalist clothes-
ayn rand portrayed this form of "capitalism"...
in atlas shrugged-
the real capitalists in her novel...
like dagny taggart and reardon...
would have never accepted govt welfare-
crony capitalism...
is phony capitalism-
and cart away loads of capital-
mom and pop...
provided local jobs-
