What's More Important: Freedom or Safety?

With the latest shooting tragedy in Colorado, gun control is undoubtedly on everyone's mind. I know it's not as black and white as "freedom vs. safety" but people in the "pro-gun" camp seem to cite freedom, liberty and the 2nd amendment while talking about their right to carry guns. And as for the "anti-gun" camp, many cite the safety and well-being of the general public, as criminals and people with mental disorders will not have such easy access to weapons that kill. What do you think is more important: freedom or safety?

Humor me ..... in your thinking, did you by any chance consider who or what you just described ?

.... sad part of it all Red .... you and I support that thinking with our Tax Dollars and they take that indoctrination into the Voting Booth every election.

Tytler said it best many years ago .... over 200 yrs ago !

" A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship." -- Professor Alexander Tytler

He painted his hair red, claimed to be the personification of a comic book character (THE JOKER). He armed and dressed himself as if in, and then in his mind justified his was in a moral fight death with what? A bunch of popcorn eating couch potatoes?

If you happen to think he is NOT a mental case, I demand authorities lock you up for evaluation as well. Maybe you could explain how someone who plans down to miniscule detail to KILL people, in mass, and leaves deadly booby traps behind is just an regular old Joe? Come one, I'll wait cause this is going to be really good!!!!!

You claim "Freedom without safety is chaos", you are just plain being silly and stupid.

What new gun laws would you like to see passed.I think the only gun law we don't have now is the total ban of guns. You can close every gun shop in the country and I can have a new gun by dark.

safety is everyone's priority and if it comes by the way of freedom its good and well, but if not you might try to remain safe cause with your life remaining and your body being fine you can enjoy as much as you want in your future may be a lot of freedom too!

I've said for years we need to ban swimming pools and bathtubs before we ban guns.

No one needs to swim, you can cool off in the sprinkler; and no one needs a bath, showers work just as good. Think of how many lives we could save.

When people are not free they tend to revolt and safety flies out the window. How much history do we need to keep proving this point.

with Freedom comes safety, it's regulation, fear mongering, and disinformation about things like guns that detract from it. This is a very convenient tragedy on the eve of a global gun ban treaty.

This country was based on freedom. However, I don't agree with having only two options for an answer. It's not like you can only have one. In fact, owning a gun will give you both. JK, kinda.

Freedom is what we are up against today. if the 2nd amendment gets trashed because of the UN Gun Treaty that Obama and Clinton are going to sign on the 27th.It's a mark against the constitution that they swore to uphold. So far Obama hasn't held his part of the bargain by his executive orders he is trashing the Constitution and trashing the American people. he does not care what happens to us and it's pretty evident that he will get his way for this. But Remember the NRA has 4.3 Million members that over see 100,000,000 gun owners......Now do you really believe any of them will let the UN come on their property and take their weapons.I'm a life member and they will only get my guns if i'm i n a body bag ! Also so you know Harry Reid is trying to kill the 1st amendment..FREEDOM OF SPEECH! Who the hell do they think they are. I will fight to the death for what i believe in!!
