What would you think about Obama appointing a Republican such as Colin Powell or John Huntsman as Secretary of State?

Most of the chatter about possible Secretary of State nominees to replace Hillary has been around John Kerry and Susan Rice but let's weigh the possibility of Obama taking the surprise route of appointiong a Republican.

Even though Colin Powell served in the Bush administration in the same post, Powell became a strong supporter of President Obama in the 2008 and 2012 Presidential elections. He is also a popular figure and has recieved praise from those on the left for his moderate stance on a wide array of issues.

Also a moderate Republican, John Huntsman has many years of foreign diplomacy experience under his belt including serving as the ambassador to China in the Obama administration.

I'm asking both Democrats and Republicans on this site, what would your feelings be if Obama appointed either of these two qualified candidates as Secretary of State?

I really don't care what someones party is. As long as the person is well suited for the job I'm all for it. Good people, especially politicians are hard to come by, so if you give me the person that's going to have OUR best interests in mind, sign them up!

Given their foreign policy experience I would be satisfied with either one. My preference would be Jon Huntsmen. I don't think Colin Powell would get an easy ride in the confirmation process as he is considered an evil traitor for endorsing Obie over Mittens.

Although I am a reistered democrat to be able to vote in primaries, I wouldnt mind a republican in the cabinate. Wen former president Clinton had Bill Coon as sec of defense, I thought it was a wonderful choice. I wis he would be accepted enough to run for POTUS, but I don't believe that will ever happen.

The job should go to the most qualified. There aren't that many left in Washington. So what party they belong to shouldn't matter.

Obama is still trying to prove he's a centerist, I wish he would appoint a liberal such as Kucinich.

Either would be able to to do the job. I do not think it like that Obama would choose either of them.

LOLz pardon my assumption. I'm so accustomed to being attacked as a Conservative on this site it's usually my first defensive action, but let me correct you. I stand by my remarks, I said he was a Democrat. The reason I say that is because he has condemned the GOP for being a party of racists, he has twice endorsed a Liberal Democrat for POTUS and he supports the liberal agenda for both Foreign Policy and Military Policy. In my world if it walks like a ass and talks like an ass, it's probably a Democrat.
  • John KCurtis 2012/12/13 05:46:54
    John
Well, I don't agree with you on that point. I'm a Democrat. But I have no intention of attacking you. You have every right to your political leanings. I have two sisters that are Republicans. But I have one sister and one brother that are Democrats. We all get along very well.

Either is a better choice that any potential nominee mentioned so far. That said neither is considered a Republican by anyone; not even I suspect, if they were honest, by themselves. Powell and Huntsman are Quislings, but obama's cabinet is such a collection of the worst and the weirdest that even either of these Quislings would be the best among the worst.
