I would defend the teen. It's his right to decide who he wants to be.

I would defend the teen, but also explain to them that they can't get the surgery 'just because they want to', that it takes time and doctors to diagnose that they are indeed transgendered before anyone will do a reassignment surgery, and even then, they aren't cheap.

This is not a topic I would feel comfortable about jumping into with strangers, or maybe not even friends. Seriously!

This question is assuming that YOU know ALL of the facts, and I'm sure that wouldn't be possible if this happens to be a chance encounter.

Unless a parent is publicly causing physical injury to a child, it's no one's business . Stay out of it!

Only uber-marxist ABC News would ask this question. Now if it was MSNBC, they'd demand that teen go to Capitol Hill and DEMAND that Congress fund ALL these transgressional operations for free (on the taxpayers dime)! Scumbag communists need to die and die quickly and get off my tv!

If I was the parent of the teen though my response would be. You want gender reassignment surgery? Great, well when you're an adult and can pay for all that it entails then feel free to do so until then you'll just have to make the best of the body that you have right now.

Anybody that thinks it's a "phase" doesn't have clue. Nonetheless, it would be none of my business.

(And I think a lot of people have read this as "beating". The words are only 1 letter away).

Not only is it none of my business , if i was in a position to be overhearing such a converstation , i would wonder why i am in the vicinity of these people during what i would consider a private conversation . after a very quick "wonderwhy" then i would be leaving the area

Hillary Clinton said, "It takes a village", right?

The parent has the responsibility of the child. Teens barely know what they want to do tomorrow. If the teen (or anyone) really wants a gender reassignment surgery, they should make certain and expect to explain the decision.

And Hillary Clinton is your idea of the perfect role model? How about this. Instead of following the advice of a narcissistic, arrogant, testosterone freebasing politician, you follow logic, and mind your business? Never thought of that option, did you?...Just a thought...

I want the left to see that society should support parents in decision making, not wait for government or legislation.evil happens when good people don't do anything.

You have an excellent point. I agree with you completely. My only point, is that this shouldn't even be a topic of conversation. I have seen few capable of governing themselves, so they have no right to try and govern me. I believe that there are good people trying to do good thing. I just want them to do so, some where else....Just a thought...

ABC is obsessed with reassignment surgery, homosexuality, and the LGBT movement.
With everything going on in this world, you would think they could come up with a few fresh, new questions. This topic is old!!

How bad? Is she just explaining that she doesn't support it, or is she attacking him in a verbally abusive way? A mother offering an opinion in a less than polite way is fine, but verbal abuse is not acceptable, especially in public. I don't support transgenderism because of how it violates genetics, but I have no problem with people doing it if they choose to, after they are free from their parents' home.

For being berated? That isn't a crime, assuming it doesn't cross the line of verbal abuse, which it generally isn't (berating, I mean).
