What would you do if a drug raid ruined your house?

Pele Emerging 2012/09/20 00:32:03
Nothing. They were just doing their job.
I'd be very angry. They had the wrong house

Here is a case where a search warrant was issued for a different place, but drug enforcement officers held the homeowner and family hostage while they trashed the place. They didn't find any drugs, either. The officers claimed they aren't responsible for the damage they caused, either.

The thing which surprises me is that it happens all the time, seemingly, but they get away with it. It's outrageous.

That is bad, they need to make sure their investigations are properly planned to avoid this type of thing.

I think the thing that bothers me is that they seemed to think that wrecking the guy's house was funny.

I had the cops raid my house. They held my kids at gun point. My youngest was a boy of ten. A gun in his face by inches. They made my oldest son sit on the floor at the age of 16 in the middle of the living room. The warrant was for my house but there wasn't anything at my house. They had 3 cities of cops and 2 drug dogs search my house and the outside of my house. They tore everything up and completely trashed my house. They broke the door hinges on the only door that was locked out of 3 doors. I was arrested for supposedly having a stolen gun that was purchased 2 years prior at a gun shop. They asked me if I knew where the receipt was but there is no way I could find it even if they uncuffed me. They broke my safe without asking for the key. All my things were strewn everywhere. Even peeling the self stick tiles off my bathroom floors and braking my a/c vents even the ones that wern't screwed in. It was horrid. They said they didn't have to fix anything because they had the right to do that. I found the receipt for the supposed gun after spending 6 grand on an attourney and they destroyed my gun. They wouldn't give it back to me.

Harassment by the Authority on Innocent Citizens. The Constitution has been systematically ignored on a routine basis since at (at least) Nixon enacted the DEA. Now, with the Patriot Act, one could be searched without a warrant & detained indefinitely with no access to an lawyer essentially on a (false) tip from someone unnamed.

Sort of smacks of the lettre de cachet which could put you right in the Bastille without trial before the French Revolution.

The French in 1789 followed the example you set in 1776, empires tend to last only a couple centuries. Maybe it's time for another?

It may be, but revolutions tend to throw out the good along with the bad until things are settled. I prefer peaceful means, myself.

Quite right, there's (as in Lybia, same for Yugoslavia) a 'power vacuum' and the tribal kingpins have a turf feud. UN peace-keepers ought to be deployed (worked in Cyprus & the Sinai) until some reasonably cohesive government can be set up.

    What State was it in?

    What Police agency was it?

What is the POLICAL belief of the Mayor? Most likely a lefty, seen it before.

    The REAL KICKER?

The front door, no front door at home depot is a single door that goes for 3 grand, not when it's PAINT GRADE MATERIAL, sorry.

I say this story is just a PRIMER for what is to come, perhaps.

This happened in the greater Chicago area.

The door? The house is owned by an architect, so it was not a simple paint grade door from Home Depot. The lock set was from there, but if you look at the pictures of the door, the entry obviously had a pretty fancy door, from the side windows and stuff beside it. Yes, special order doors can be 3000. The kicker to me is that they could have entered through the garage and not broken down the door at all.

Out of curiosity, I search Home Depot and found a front door which retails for over 3500. http://www.homedepot.com/Door...

The door surround is all paint grade and I agree, many doors can be nice wood with a paint grade surround, but on this one? Something is fishy with the whole story, who knows.

It's darned hard to tell with plywood or something covering it and the storm door destroyed as well. The fancy side panels indicate that it isn't just an ordinary door. As to whether it is a 3000 dollar one or not, I wouldn't want to guess without a 'before' picture. Even if it is an ordinary, run of the mill door, the fact that the officers bashed it down, tore down dry wall and then were very cavalier about the whole thing when they didn't find a blasted thing is disgusting.

Actually, it was part of the greater Chicago AREA, and the very liberal mayor to which you refer is not mayor in this location. The DEA agents were from the county, according to the article.
