What point was Obama making when he said 'If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen' ?
President Barack Obama addressed supporters in Roanoke, Virginia on Saturday afternoon and took a shot at the business community. President Obama dismissed any credit business owners give themselves for their success:
There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me -- because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t -- look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. (Applause.)
If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.
The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don’t do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.

Mrs. maggot 2012/07/16 12:13:21Other Thoughts!+24Ok Mr. Obama, just exactly who was it that got up before sunrise to cook from scratch several varieties of soup each day. Who was it that hand crafted each and every specialty sandwich and salad? Who washed those dishes ran the cash register and mopped the floors? My little "mom and pop" was very successful and with the exception of my one employee who worked as a waitress from 8am to 2pm and my mom who handled the register through the lunch rush, I seem to have different ideas about small business than you do...

you opinion isnt making any sense here ,,,
I'm not the only one who feels this way !
You have totally misconstrued what the president said and my guess is that you got it from FOX News since they were the only ones to edit his statement to make it sound like he was demeaning business owners who've worked their butts off to succeed. And that's not at all what he was saying. He was saying we are all interdependent upon each other. Our success comes from those who raised us, taught us in schools, encouraged us to go out and make our fortunes as well as the men and women who build our roads and bridges for transporting our goods, firefighters to protect our buildings/offices, police to keep our businesses safe and many other people along the road of our lives who mentored us and shared their knowledge with us. What he said is all good and all true. He wasn't taking anything away from the guy or gal who works their butt off to succeed. All he was saying is that we are all interconnected.
it's ammusing to see how you folks Libbers twist things around all the time ..!
an observation for many here !
what was heard & interpreted by the anaylists was the same as what the people heard ,,
POBAMA subliminally hypnotized you folks with his jargon ....! has been pro socialism -anti business & small business !
his hidden agenda hasnt faltered ,,,destroy american /economy !
anothe twist & confuse ,,cause you've lost the debate ?
we've been here before ,,,and you keep loosing these cause your wrong !
I need government like a fish needs an bicycle. I am government. I have been a productive citizen since I was 7 years old.
We are not interconnected anymore. Barry has set out to divide us and he has done just that. For he and his socialist dream.
He's talking like a Marxist, because he is one.
Less government, more jobs, more taxes collected. End of story!
My grandkids love the fact that I can fix anything.(broken toys)
NO ONE else worked 70 hour plus weeks, went without vacations, hardly ever bought new clothes, drove an old car or sacrificed what hubby and I did to build this business. NO ONE.
I THINK he was trying to say that his preferred deadbeat slaggards DID contribute by supporting the business and so should share in that success-i THINK that is his commie point.
But I am not sure.
Obama wasn't discrediting that you didn't work hard but you're not alone. Many other American's do the same thing. You do not build a business alone, you for instance had your husband helping you. There are a lot of people out there who think, "Yes it was all me, I did it completely alone off my own back." Refusing to even think about the teachers that helped them with their school work, the people that provide support for small businesses. The customers that gave you their money.
What I think he was saying is that a lot of people are working hard but success doesn't come alone it comes with the help and team work of others.
Could you have started up your business without your Husband?
