Muderers, rapists, & child molester should all be put to death. They should never again be able to even have a chance to walk the streets, & they do not deserve to live out the rest of their lives on the taxpayers' dime.

1 god is the only one who should take life away
2 this is going to teach people "killing is fine, the US does it!"
3 This is murder so why punish people who kill by killing them?
4 God loves murderers just as much as he loves you, only difference is murderers don't love God

The death penalty is such a serious thing. So hard to answer. Your taking a persons life. I don't think a life for a life is necessary. But I never experienced the type of pain that a person who's lost a love one to murder has felt. I'm undecided, because I just...I've never been in their shoes...Who knows if I would go off the deep end & do the slaying myself ha...or would I show grace & compassion. I would say if only a person has murder another person...Difficult question...It can only truly be answered if one has ever been in that predicament... GOOD QUESTION!

I always used to be for the death penalty, but then it was pointed out to me that it costs the taxpayers $$$$$ to litigate, because there are usually ongoing appeals--cheaper to keep them in prison. But if there's no doubt; e.g. Dahmer, Gacy, I still say put them down. However there needs to be reform of the law, so they can't languish for years of litigation process. I also believe that prison should be much less comfortable than it is now.I do disapprove of it IF there is a possibility of new evidence proving innocence. I personally know of someone who is in prison for a murder I know in my heart of hearts he didn't commit.

    I struggle with this sometimes...

The idea that an innocent person might be killed for a crime they didn't commit is terrifyling.

But, some times the crimes that are committed are so heinus all I can think of is "an eye for an eye". And I think that lethal injection is too good for them.

Because sometimes it is not worth keeping someone in prison for decades when they have committed a heinous crime and for I approve of it for those for whom there is no redemption. Some people are just too evil and some will never be sorry or repentant for their crimes. And I don't think that prisons should be so cushy either. When incarcerate people have an easier life than those who must earn their way, something is wrong. And yes, I would pray that no innocent person has to suffer through these events, but it will certainly make many of those who don't worry about the consequences of their actions more concerned.

creates a real deterrent against the commission of capitol crimes. But to have an effective death penalty any appeal must be acted upon within the first year and the sentence carried out by the 366th day. We cannot allow criminals to live in the system indefinitely

More people of color have it applied to them for lesser crimes. More people of color have it applied to them for the same crimes.
    Do some research.

White people are more guilty of two crimes; white-collar and those who are murderers are more prone to be mass murderers - who generall get the death penalty. But before you decide that punishment is racist, you might want to check the facts on the crimes being committed. When more blacks commit crimes, there will be more blacks incarcerated.

Do some research? Minorities tend to commit more murders and tend to be repeat offenders. So do you think that we should just start executing white people to even out the numbers?

No. Don't be absurd. The law is NOT equally applied. I'm not speaking to who commits more crimes---though I don't necessarily agree with you. I'm speaking to the FACT that minorities have a much greater chance than whites to have the death penalty applied to them.

Combined, perhaps. But that's being intellectually dishonest. Blacks barely hedge out whites on number of crimes committed. And whites far outdo Hispanics. Blacks and whites are pretty even.

i think people whom commit heiness and licivious acts against another human being resulting in thier death have forfiet thier ability to live and enjoy eating a meal, breathing, or any basic human rights. They chose to play god as well, so let a jury or judge be an instrument of god and let them meet their maker. two wrongs don't make a right doesn't apply to these people. Only under certain circumstances should someone not be sentenced to death IE: protecting your home and family, the person you killed you killed in self defense, you have a CCW permit and were in a situation where there was a criminal about to snuff out someone elses life in a commision of other numerous crimes and you sought out the opportunity to stop them through deadly force because that was the only alternative .

Pretty good, but to protect yourself you should NOT have to have a CCW permit. You should be able to have any weapon available and necessary and not be penalized for using it. I think it would be more of a deterrant to crime if criminals knew that other people might fight back - and win.
  • mxmamma774 J 2009/09/01 16:28:33 (edited)

I agree, but these days, you need to protect yourself leagally in an effort to prevent prosecution. I know a man that served 20 years for protecting his property from theft and a convicted murderer . He shot and killed him and they told him had he been carrying a permit for his weapon, he may not have served time. this is the world we live in today unfortunately and I simply want to provide an extended means of protecttion for myself and my kids when I don't have my husband there to do that.
  • J mxmamma774 2009/09/01 16:41:16
    J
Oh, I am not saying that if that is the law that you have the concealed weapon. I don't think that we should have to be licensed to carry a weapon. Perhaps have a criminal background check and a severe mental history check, but that's it.
  • Tim J 2009/10/12 01:26:17

Well in the state of PA you do not need a CCW we are an open carry state. You can carry a firearm strapped to your side as long as it is in plain view.

I believe that if you kill, rape, molest any one. even ONCE i think they should be punished with the death penalty.

Out of all honesty, once a murderer, rapist, molester, always. and those people should not be able to be in contact JUST in case of them repeating they're horrible attempt.

God says in the bible an eye for an eye. It is up to god to forgive and up to man to uphold our laws and our laws forbid you from committing murder, and up until the weinie liberals got into positions of power our laws required the death penalty.

That was written in the old testament and many things were changed after the old testament. The new testament shows how God will forgive anyone of any sin. No sin is greater than any other.
