What is your opinion of the USA?

It's a fine country. But the BEST? Come on!

You asked me what my opinion was of the USA. This is my country and to me
it is the very best country in the world. I'm extremely loyal to the USA. No country has
as much freedom and opportunity for all like the USA . Have you ever been to the USA ?
I'm thinking no, otherwise you wouldn't question me then say come on.

I didn't think this was so controversial. I was just asking for opinions about something simple. And it's not like I was saying rude things about USA, I did say that it was a good country.

remarked " But the BEST ? Come on ! "... not for nothing but it sounded a bit rude to me so I reacted in the very normal way anyone who loved and defended their country would have reacted. While your poll can be considered a controversial topic, it's the way you said what you said that would stike anyone's nerve, ya know ? If you don't accept another's opinion then you shouldn't post a question and if you don't think the USA is the BEST country when I'm a proud American saying I think it is, then you shouldn't have gone there. You have a right to think what you want but there are faithful and true Americans here like myself that could be offended by how you first replied to me. Would you have liked it if I would have came out with that remark about your country ? I don't think so. You have to use discretion and common sense here if you post a question such as this one and if you do not think that the USA is the best country then you should politely keep it to yourself.

I honestly don't think that my country is the best in the world either. I love my country, and I still won't go as far as that. And I just said that I'm sorry for saying that.

The U.S.A. indeed has its share of problems; just about every country in the world does. But here's something to consider. When asked what he thought of their chief ally, the United States, the Prime Minister of Great Britain summed it up nicely. I'm paraphrasing, as I do not have the exact quote, but his words were to the effect that more people in the world are fighting to become United States citizens than any other country. People are trying to find ways to get INTO the U.S., not out of it. He thought that said it all. I do too, and eloquently.

true, they are third party candidates with no hope of winning so I'm stuck voting for the lesser of two evils(Obama) as much as I would rather see true change but until we solve our election problems that won't happen.

he won't make anything worse atleast he's on the right side of gay issues and reproductive rights and had appointed intelligent people to the supreme court and even at first was really strong on things like legalizing stem cell research. Where he had started to give up was where he didn't fight for universal healthcare only a watered down version of it thats better than nothing. After that he only became more conservative.

The United States is a great country, but we're not saints. Our nation also has blood on its hands, and right now it's in dire need of an extreme makeover.

Not just right now. For about all of history. Who was the last to give women the right to vote? To get rid of slavery? Etc. Present day United States is much better than that! They actually have something to be somewhat proud of: not being so racist... But the debt and all is a problem.

The debt isn't the only problem. We have the highest disparity between rich and poor of all the developed nations. We're also the only developed country that doesn't have universal health care, yet we spend more money on defense than all the other world powers combined.

The USA used to be (this is in jeopardy right now) a CAN-DO nation. It believed in itself and in capitalism. Right now it's going through what Margaret Thatcher called "the unacceptable face of capitalism". She knew it existed: the US did not. So the US is going through a "wake-up call". They've discovered that capitalism isn['t perfect and that's pissing them off.

My best friend is Russian. Born in Tashkent (I don't have to tell you which country that is,,, being a Russian) and she has witnessed the lackings of the Soviet system and what has been lost under the new system that the Soviets got right)

The USA is a new country. They haven't been through stuff like Europe has. Europe has tried everything the USA has, found it isn't quite kosher and has chosen their own way.
If it wasn't for investing in our shady derivates, Europe would be OK right now. America likes to criticize Europe right now claiming their system is at fault while denying that Europe's investment in their crooked banking schemes is what has brough them down.

I was born in Moscow.. I can see that there are flaws in any government system, whether it is capitalist or socialist or anything else, if it takes it too far.

Consumerism, capitalism, fascism, beauty, money, fear, guns, god, sex, government. Those words just about sum it up in my opinion, and I'm born and raised in America.

I was born and raised in the U.S. I think that the Government should be more concerned with balancing the budget and paying down the national debt than they are. You cannot continue to borrow money to spend now for future generations to pay back.

The government is preventing competition from taking place in the schools. It is Soviet style and it's destroying the country. It's becoming a national security issue.
