What is your opinion about the Congressmen and Congresswomen who walked out on the Contempt vote yesterday? Is this acceptable behavior?

Acceptable and appropriate. The. It's itself was political theater, when is the house going to stop playing games and get down to the important usiness of the country? Apparently the GOP has no plans to do anything real this year.

That is were this investigation started, and had it continued in that direction I would have supported it. Sadly, the GOP stopped pursuing the real issues, which go back many years, and turned it into a political three ring circus. That's when they lost ALL credibility and my support.

Would you be kind enough to explain to me how congress wanting to know who knew about this illegal and treasonous operation is just political?

Actually, that question is loaded and not quite fair.

Could you explain how this is all political?

Seriously? You don't think that the Issa "investigation" went off track cherry picking what they were willing to hear and what was suppressed? You really don't think that he had a political ax to grind? Honestly?
  • Doc Starman 2012/07/01 01:22:12
    Doc
Of course politics is involved. But do you think that this is all political?
Thousands of untracked guns went to Mexico. The ATF was told not to arrest anyone, and gunshops that suspected something was up were told to sell the guns anyway.
Two federal agents were killed, along with hundreds of mexicans.

How can this be ALL political?

The problem is that Issa stopped trying to find out what happened and instead was only looking for ways to make Obama look bad. There is no way for Issa to find out what really happened with what he was doing.

For a good analysis of what Fast & Furious is really all about take a look at this article. It's a good read: http://features.blogs.fortune...

Issa can't get the relevant documents from Holder, get some reality already!

Why bother invoke an executive privilege if WH or obama wasn't involved as obama proclaimed???

Why not turn over the documents? These were the documents that Holder was willing to "brief" but would not allow the congress to have!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why? It will come out, it might buy time for obama's re-election, but history will view him as the president of the cesspool politics.

The documents that were withheld relation to ongoing investigations. Try reading the article, it's very illuminating.
  • Doc Starman 2012/07/01 22:44:51
    Doc
The article is rather long, and it does support your position somewhat, but there are still some things that are unclear.

    Why didn't the prosecuters act?

The idea that Issa is acting this way due to the election is not likely, since he asked for the documents last year, which was not an election year.

Regardless of the reason, US federal agents screwed up and hundreds of innocent people DIED as a result.

The DOJ is supposed to investigate this, and it hasn't.

Here's alink that logically argues the other side.

I reference an investigative news article in Fortune Magazine and you give me "The Week". Sigh. The article you send the link to certainly is short, but it's also content free. It says 1) Executive Privilege 2) Executive Privilege 3) There must be justice. So?

The DOJ said that it would not release documents on ongoing investigations. The President said, via executive privilege that the DOJ would not release documents on ongoing investigations.

The very idea that somehow this leads to a big cover up at the highest levels of government is absurd. Did you really read the article in Fortune. If you had I think you'd have a better understanding of what really happened.
  • Doc Starman 2012/07/11 17:50:19
    Doc
Yes, I did read the article.

But I think we'd be better off just debating straight.

You seem a decent fellow, so unless I find something that I completely disagree with, I won't question it.

Anyway, your fortune article states that guns weren't intentionally let out of the country.
However, the whole reason Fast and Furious came to light is that a whistle blower in the ATF said that he was ordered to allow guns to walk.

And that IS from your article.

They were trying desperately to find a way to get to the heads of the cartels despite having their hands tied behind their backs by National Rifle Association and the other gun lobbies.
  • Doc Starman 2012/07/11 18:14:15
    Doc
So it's okay for them to break the law?

And is it wrong for the gun lobbies to not want the cartels to get guns?
  • Starman Doc 2012/07/11 19:52:20
    Starman
The real issues of any wrong doing are being investigated, and indictment are already being handed down. That doesn't warrant turning this into a huge political ploy.

The gun lobbies are not working to prevent anyone, even cartels getting guns. They are pushing unswervingly for gun availability to anyone and everyone with no restrictions.

Why are you trying to make this about the Democrats? Is your argument that the GOP can be just as bad as the worst example you can think of? The issue at hand is that the Republicans are wasting our time and our money trying to turn this into political capital.

There is a really good investigative piece on Fast and Furious in Fortune Magazine. It's online, you should read it.

Yes, and if there had been a real investigation of the history, background and source of these programs i would have supported them. The GOP choose instead to not look at the real problems, but turn it into a witch hunt to try to damage the administration. That is when they lost all credibility and my support.
