SodaHead Celebrates Green Week

Question US

What is the REAL reason Democrats lost Governerships in New Jersey and New York?

Javimendo November 04, 2009 16:43:35

The Obama magic has faded... That’s no surprise — as that magic was a largely substanceless froth whipped up by campaign consultants and compliant big-media cheerleaders. ...The truth is, Obama wasn’t ready to be president when he ran in 2008... — he himself admitted upon entering the Senate that he wasn’t qualified to be president...

The exit polls that I heard last night say that WE THE PEOPLE are sick to death of this administration and congress not listening to us and we are through with them...so we sent them lesson #1 and they had better listen or the gig is up come 2010

There's no ONE "real" reason, anymore than there's one real voter who affected the change. But if I had to pick one reason I'd say we don't like one party to have all the power. Because the three branches refuse to use the balancing system of checks, We The People try to keep them in check with the only tool we have--a lame two-party system.

"That was a huge victory for Democratic party" --- some black Congressman on TV.

Oh, well... I wish Democrats more of such victories in 2010 and 2012.

Btw, Cristie promised to get rid of Democrat's corruption in New Jersey and to put everybody in jail where they all belong.

Yeah right, Republican governors don't matter.

    Try to spin this:

    http://www.rasmussenreports.c...

Republican congressional candidates hold on to a four-point lead over Democrats this week in the latest Generic Congressional Ballot.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 42% would vote for their district’s Republican congressional candidate while 38% would opt for his or her Democratic opponent.

Voters not affiliated with either party continue to heavily favor Republicans, 39% to 23%.

Since late June, support for Republican candidates has ranged from 41% to 44%, while support for Democrats has run from 36% to 40%. Looking back one year ago, the two parties were in a much different place. Throughout the fall of 2008, support for Democratic congressional candidates ranged from 42% to 47%. Republican support ranged from 37% to 41%.

I didn't think that we were voting for President. Maybe the people of these states actually were voting for the Governor of their choice regardless of national politics. New Jersey is the one that I think probably has the biggest message for Dems. Virgina was inevitable.

I think the elections in New Jersey follow the pattern that has been set for decades. Their govenor has always been of the opposite party of the US president. Al the other choices are biased hateful and racially charged.

Yes, that's right. It's all about race.

Not the economy...not about mindless, unprecedented spending...not about taxing to death the very economic engine which will put us on par with a banana republic... not about socialism...not about Cloward-Pliven...etc...etc......

They lost the governorships of New Jersey and Virginia. They won a congressional race in New York.
As for why, they lost (in Virginia at least, I haven't looked into New Jersey as much) because of concerns about fiscal policy among the middle. The middle went for Obama in the last elction in New Jersey and Virginia, and they didn't this time. In Virginia, at least, the governor to be ran on fiscal conservatism. If the Republicans are wise, they will look at what he did and go with that next year.

A more accurate question would be:

Why did the Republicans lose New York's 23rd district Congressional seat to a Democrat, a seat that they have held for a majority of the time since the civil war?
  • +1 raves
    StarWar... StarWar... November 05, 2009 09:35:41

The easy answer is that the Republican party is at war with itself, between the ultra-conservative faction and the moderate faction. This is the main reason why the Republicans will lose more seats than they gain in 2010. They drove Arlen Specter out of the party with the same fight.

If this election were about Obama, then why didn't the Republicans win the California's 10th District Congressional seat, an office held by six different Republicans for 22 terms since 1912?

The Democrats have only held that seat for 24 terms since 1912. The last Republican to hold that seat was Congressman Bill Baker from 1992 to 1996.

The easy answer is that this election was not about President Obama, and the Republicans are deluding themselves if they think it was.

Just answering my own questions because conservatives are not going to answer them as they are in a state of constant denial on what happened on Tuesday. The right wing extreamists blew it in New York, and they are still trying to figure out what happened. The spin from Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh yesterday was priceless.

Yea, and I hope they keep it up. If they didn't get involved in New York's 23rd district special election, the Republicans would have kept that seat. Even though the moderate removed herself from the ballot, she still got over 5% of the vote, giving the win to the Democrat. No that is worth it's weight in gold.

People have hated Corzine and he has been terribly unpopular for years. Jesus Christ couldn't have gotten people to vote for him. His only prayer what that Christie got caught in a few corruption scandals. (That's New Jersey, by the way, New York's gubernatorial race is next year.) Deeds was not popular either. Note how the conservatives got their hands slapped trying to place one of their own in a moderate district. I hope they try this again next year.

You are an ignorant pisant. The governorships were in Virginia and New Jersey, where local issues were the issue. You RWNJs are so spaced out on your pills and booze that you can't even keep your elections straight, You probably heard Beck or Limbaugh wrong so that is even worse - garbage in garbage out or GIGO as we say in the computer world. In New York, for your sorry information, a Democrat won a Congressional seat in a traditionally Repubican area. So sit on a tack and twirl awhile.

dismissing, ignoring, and ridiculing concerned American citizens is one sure way to piss off the electorate. Their arrogance from the top down is astounding. Their corruption in the form of SEIU, ACORN, Tides Foundation, Apollo Alliance and their ties to the Obama administration is galling.

Americans want to be pround of their President, and we aren't. We don't want communists in the Executive branch.
