What is the matter with Kansas? Another Dispatch on the War on Women.

luvguins 2012/05/08 04:42:22
How long can the right wingers and the GOP deny the war on women which is getting more obvious day by day.

By Jessica Pieklo

What use could Operation Rescue possibly have for the names and identifying information of women who had abortions at one particular clinic in Kansas in the month of April? And more importantly, should we trust any reason they offer since it seems that whenever a horrific act of domestic terrorism targeting women and abortion providers happens Operation Rescue seems to be in the thick of it. The group claims to be in possession of the medical records of girls and women and posted redacted images of these records online. They insist they want nothing more than to make sure the records get safely returned to state custodians, which would be a great story to tell federal investigators from the Department of Justice.

Anti-abortion activists are making significant inroads in Iowa where Gov. Terry Branstad (R) first nominated a former Operation Rescue operative and convicted felon to serve on the state’s medical board that oversees, among other things, complaints made against abortion providers. When that nomination failed Branstad decided instead of finding someone a little more neutral to serve on the board that a Catholic priest was best qualified to render judgment over the care doctors provide women.

After some initial jurisdictional gymnastics the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the state of Texas must continue to fund Planned Parenthood while the constitutionality of a rule that strips the health care provider of funding gets heard by the trial court.

Apparently, Gov. Jan Brewer (R-AZ) didn’t hear the news, though as she signed into law that state’s ban on funding Planned Parenthood.

House Republicans are advancing their version of the Violence Against Women Act that includes such gems as letting domestic abusers know their victims have reached out for help.

Meanwhile there’s this story of a trans-woman punished for surviving a hate crime and this story of another accused of disorderly conduct. Congressional Republicans are also demanding that states stop looking for poor children to insure.

I don’t know what else we’d expect from Ted Nugent at this point, but threatening to rape a female CBS producer? Wow.

It must be nice in Michele Bachmann’s (R-MN) world. Bachmann who has now come out in support of Mitt Romney, told anyone who would listen on CBS’ Face the Nation that women “overwhelmingly” voted Republican in 2010. Except they didn’t.

Democrats in Alabama successfully filibuster a bill designed to greatly increase the costs associated with providing abortion services and accessing those services, giving women a much needed victory in the state.

Lastly, here’s at least 1000 reasons to trust women.

So, this is really not about a war on women but abortion rights.

It is the same since most women want abortion rights in addition to equal pay, and contraception coverage.

I agree with women deserving equal pay. I can't speak for most women about wanting the right to abortion, as many women I've talked to are for abortion only in certain cases .
I do not think the government needs to get involved with contraception. The people who choose to be sexually active should buy their own method of contraception unless they need a prescription for what they should us and it's covered under their insurance plan.
This is still a topic about not losing our individual rights and not about abortion, per se.

The hard liners in the GOP want to outlaw abortion even in the cases of rape and incest. Santorum in his campaign said women should consider a pregnancy from rape "a gift". Contraception coverage should be up to the health insurance companies as to coverage. If the Catholic Church is offended they can look for policies without coverage. Many of these state laws are also infringing on womens right to privacy between themselves and their physicians.

I heard Santorum's comment on looking at a pregnancy due to rape should be considered a blessing. It's one of those statements where, when you hear it, you go WTF?
The Catholic Church's strategy is to have Catholics have as many children as possible in order to increase the number of people who are Catholic. It never was appropriate for them to use this policy and, in this day and age, it's simply preposterous!

I think a majority went WTF, and why Santorum is not going to be the nominee.
Most practicing Catholics don't follow the Vatican's tenets on contraception.

Without the acknowledgment and authorization of a patient-Operation Rescue is a breach of civil rights of personal medical data and also a violation of the Hippocratic oath.Seems to me every state can view the Personally Identifiable Information how he wants. If the Constitution does not declare privacy an inalienable right, it needs amending.

To me, this isn't about abortion, for or against. It's about protecting people's rights to privacy, which we've already lost a good part of. Once something like this starts, historically it gets worse and worse. Any organization, federal or otherwise, has no right to breach our right to privacy.

The promise of the Federal and state governments is that it will not fund organizations with tax payer dollars that provide abortions. That promise has been violated over and over.

I am pro-life; but I realize that some circumstances for abortions, e.g., in cases of rape, incest, and to save the mother's life, or even in the first trimester where the fetus is just a piece of meat with no heart beating, are sometimes necessary....but never after 20-22 weeks of a normal pregnancy. There are many children walking around today who were prematurely born at 22 weeks. To perform an abortion procedure after that time, constitutes murder...period....and late term abortions for whimsical reasons ("My pregnancy interferes with my attending concerts.") are an abomination.

To defund Planned Parenthood is not overall a good idea. They provided services which are necessary to underprivileged women; but because they also provide abortions, taxpayer dollars should not be allotted to them.

I think the right-wing of the GOP (which is almost ALL of the GOP) has gone off the deep end. You'd think they'd want to conciliate women, not piss them off.

Well, I'm pissed off and I vote. I have energy and I'll be working for progressive candidates. It's time to vote those nosey-parkering, dim-witted knuckledraggers out of office.

Do you know what progressive really means? Have you ever heard of Agenda 21? This is scarey stuff and it's not a conspiracy theory. It came out of the Earth Summit in 1992 and was supported by Bill Clinton, George H. W. Bush, and Al Gore. If you don't, read up on it. I'm not trying to change your mind about who you support. I just want you to be informed.

    Didn't say you were.

But I live in an area with many conservatives who believe the UN has black helicopters waiting to take over this county. In fact, one of them informed all of us at a public meeting that a candidate for Schools Superintendent was a UN spy. So I DO know how paranoid some of the far right can be.

Progressivism means a thorough transformation of our government from providing for the security of individual liberty to one whose scope would change this principle and take on the responsibility for all economic and social problems.
Most people either love it or they hate it.
After I thought more about the black helicopters, they probably do have a number of them to be used in missions that the UN, when it actually does something, can use in the field.

That is something that I, being Dutch, find very hard to understand.

This group you mention go that far harassing doctors working in a abortionclinic.
Harassing the woman who visit an abortionclinic.

The posession of the medical files by that questionable organisation; I don't think they will just give them back to whoever is responsable for these files without looking into this files.

I hope no serious consquences will follow for the woman and doctors because it is sad to say: The US has a bad reputation concerning the often violent, aggressive attacks towards abortionclinics and its personal.

Unfortunately, this post seems to be intended to deliberately mislead people with half-truths, and misinformation. As is always the case, there is actually more to this story than is being told. Only one side of this topic has been presented, and until it is ALL told, people will NEVER be able to make an informed opinion.

As for "Operation Rescue, I for one, do NOT agree with their methods. They are a disgrace, not only to themselves, but to those they profess to support.

Another issue that will further divide the American people. I'm not saying this is right, but we need to pull ourselves together, find common ground, and fight against the big things like Agenda 21. If you think the war on women is bad now? Just wait. If we let government continue to be diversionary, which will happen more and more in this election year, we're losing sight of the big picture and any basic freedoms any American has now. If you haven't heard about Agenda 21, google it. It's important and world-wide. To find out if your city, county and/or state have signed up for it, just search Agenda 21, the name of your city and state. The old adage is true, a house divided cannot stand.

Another issue is the proposed rural depopulation in certain parts of the country. I'm posting a map, the least offensive one I could find, to be fair, as to how the U.S. is going to be carved up into populated and depopulated areas. Agenda 21

The problem I have with this is something that sounds good like Agenda 21, governments and politicians, or just man in general, can use it for nefarious purposes as they have with so many things. Because of this, I am not for Agenda 21 and I am not for the cities, counties and states paying dues to the UN to become a member and participate in the agenda. We are shown over and over again how large entities, when money is involved, do not always spend that money on what they promised or spend it wisely.
I'm all for natural biodiversity, but I do not agree that wheat and barley should no longer be grown in the U.S. because they were not indigenous plants. They we're indigenous, the seeds were brought from Europe, but they grow very well here. If some group of persons hadn't brought the seeds, birds would have eventually deposited (to put it politely) seeds here.

Operation Rescue, the anti-abortion domestic terrorist group may have gotten themselves in a heap of trouble by violation of the federal HIPPA law which protects the privacy of all medical records. Either they or whomever gave them the records could be fined $11.000,00 per record, and probably both since Operation Rescue then published them online. I hope Kathleen Sebelius, head of HHS, acts upon this before more women have their privacy violated by this hate group. http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/privac...

It's HIPAA... the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. And, before you start in accusing me of "not knowing what I'm talking about", trust me, as an EMT, I know all about HIPAA.

As for "Operation Rescue", I will point out that, in my opinion, they are a collection of absolutely reprehensible people, intent not in stopping abortions, but more focused on gaining notoriety and publicity. While I do not agree with abortion, domestic terrorism has no place in this country, and these people should be hunted down, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Unfortunately, Kathleen Sebelius is a complete incompetent, and you are right that, in all likelihood, nothing will be done. Nor can we trust that Eric Holder will involve himself in any way.

People that keep medical records know very well that they must not violate HIPPA. So whoever released these records should be prosecuted along with Operation Rescue. I'll be writing to HHS and encouraging others to do so.
