What is the matter with Kansas? Another Dispatch on the War on Women.
By Jessica Pieklo
What use could Operation Rescue possibly have for the names and identifying information of women who had abortions at one particular clinic in Kansas in the month of April? And more importantly, should we trust any reason they offer since it seems that whenever a horrific act of domestic terrorism targeting women and abortion providers happens Operation Rescue seems to be in the thick of it. The group claims to be in possession of the medical records of girls and women and posted redacted images of these records online. They insist they want nothing more than to make sure the records get safely returned to state custodians, which would be a great story to tell federal investigators from the Department of Justice.
Anti-abortion activists are making significant inroads in Iowa where Gov. Terry Branstad (R) first nominated a former Operation Rescue operative and convicted felon to serve on the state’s medical board that oversees, among other things, complaints made against abortion providers. When that nomination failed Branstad decided instead of finding someone a little more neutral to serve on the board that a Catholic priest was best qualified to render judgment over the care doctors provide women.
After some initial jurisdictional gymnastics the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the state of Texas must continue to fund Planned Parenthood while the constitutionality of a rule that strips the health care provider of funding gets heard by the trial court.
Apparently, Gov. Jan Brewer (R-AZ) didn’t hear the news, though as she signed into law that state’s ban on funding Planned Parenthood.
House Republicans are advancing their version of the Violence Against Women Act that includes such gems as letting domestic abusers know their victims have reached out for help.
Meanwhile there’s this story of a trans-woman punished for surviving a hate crime and this story of another accused of disorderly conduct. Congressional Republicans are also demanding that states stop looking for poor children to insure.
I don’t know what else we’d expect from Ted Nugent at this point, but threatening to rape a female CBS producer? Wow.
It must be nice in Michele Bachmann’s (R-MN) world. Bachmann who has now come out in support of Mitt Romney, told anyone who would listen on CBS’ Face the Nation that women “overwhelmingly” voted Republican in 2010. Except they didn’t.
Democrats in Alabama successfully filibuster a bill designed to greatly increase the costs associated with providing abortion services and accessing those services, giving women a much needed victory in the state.
Lastly, here’s at least 1000 reasons to trust women.

I do not think the government needs to get involved with contraception. The people who choose to be sexually active should buy their own method of contraception unless they need a prescription for what they should us and it's covered under their insurance plan.
This is still a topic about not losing our individual rights and not about abortion, per se.
The Catholic Church's strategy is to have Catholics have as many children as possible in order to increase the number of people who are Catholic. It never was appropriate for them to use this policy and, in this day and age, it's simply preposterous!
Most practicing Catholics don't follow the Vatican's tenets on contraception.
I am pro-life; but I realize that some circumstances for abortions, e.g., in cases of rape, incest, and to save the mother's life, or even in the first trimester where the fetus is just a piece of meat with no heart beating, are sometimes necessary....but never after 20-22 weeks of a normal pregnancy. There are many children walking around today who were prematurely born at 22 weeks. To perform an abortion procedure after that time, constitutes murder...period....and late term abortions for whimsical reasons ("My pregnancy interferes with my attending concerts.") are an abomination.
To defund Planned Parenthood is not overall a good idea. They provided services which are necessary to underprivileged women; but because they also provide abortions, taxpayer dollars should not be allotted to them.
Well, I'm pissed off and I vote. I have energy and I'll be working for progressive candidates. It's time to vote those nosey-parkering, dim-witted knuckledraggers out of office.
But I live in an area with many conservatives who believe the UN has black helicopters waiting to take over this county. In fact, one of them informed all of us at a public meeting that a candidate for Schools Superintendent was a UN spy. So I DO know how paranoid some of the far right can be.
Most people either love it or they hate it.
After I thought more about the black helicopters, they probably do have a number of them to be used in missions that the UN, when it actually does something, can use in the field.
This group you mention go that far harassing doctors working in a abortionclinic.
Harassing the woman who visit an abortionclinic.
The posession of the medical files by that questionable organisation; I don't think they will just give them back to whoever is responsable for these files without looking into this files.
I hope no serious consquences will follow for the woman and doctors because it is sad to say: The US has a bad reputation concerning the often violent, aggressive attacks towards abortionclinics and its personal.
As for "Operation Rescue, I for one, do NOT agree with their methods. They are a disgrace, not only to themselves, but to those they profess to support.
Texas tried to unfund all womens clinics and Planned Parenthood, and a judge struck it down. Click on the blue highlighted words to read more about each statement.
Anyone notice all the new STATE laws concerning voter ID?
What do you think?
I'm all for natural biodiversity, but I do not agree that wheat and barley should no longer be grown in the U.S. because they were not indigenous plants. They we're indigenous, the seeds were brought from Europe, but they grow very well here. If some group of persons hadn't brought the seeds, birds would have eventually deposited (to put it politely) seeds here.
As for "Operation Rescue", I will point out that, in my opinion, they are a collection of absolutely reprehensible people, intent not in stopping abortions, but more focused on gaining notoriety and publicity. While I do not agree with abortion, domestic terrorism has no place in this country, and these people should be hunted down, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Unfortunately, Kathleen Sebelius is a complete incompetent, and you are right that, in all likelihood, nothing will be done. Nor can we trust that Eric Holder will involve himself in any way.
