ixquick.com might be my next stop. How can you trust your search if the search engine hangs out its politics and tries to impose it on you. Google not only announced that they are against the 2nd Amendment, but did so by imposing restrictions on the 1st Amendment. If I had been blessed with the wealth and potential of heading the worlds biggest search engine, I wouldn't have blown it. Google just threw the rope around its own neck and jumped off the gallows. Sad.

No doubt these companies contract services to each other, but they are also competitors and one will ultimately overtake the other. I never knocked Google's technical capabilities and service, but I do see the danger of their politics. A quick analogy -- if we had to rely "only" on CNN and MSNBC on the one hand, or "only" Fox News on the other without the option of weighing the facts, then we would be subject to being spoon fed the news by a bias entity. Bias search engines are even more dangerous. Just as Google will hang out its politics on the 2nd Amendment and even comply with a sitting administration on the 1st Amendment, then they will tailor news preferences to their users. Any of us can use and then fire ixquick just as easily as we could Google and move on.

ixquick is a meta search engine. It gets results from several sources WITHOUT tagging you with cookies. It's claim to fame is privacy.

Understood, but using ixquick has the same net effect. Google won't have any idea who's getting their results.

Good for you. I deleted my Google accounts. Well, most of them. It was my primary mail server so that's going to take some time. But Bing is a decent search engine, as is yahoo.

I really feel betrayed by Google's move to censor gun sales. What's the point? You can still find the filthiest of filthy porn? Is that better? "Big Boys in Boots" is okay as long as no guns are involved... Sheesh!

I run Bing in Firefox and Google in Chrome and keep both browsers open. I use Bing first, but for really arcane searches Google still wins the day.

Don't know if it's a coincidence or not, but several times I have tried to 'google' a conservative subject and had to weed through a lot of liberal crap to find what I was looking for. (Sometimes I never did find it). I'm using Yahoo at the moment, but plan to look at Bing and Dogpile when I get a little time and see how they are. Maybe try each one for a week or so and see how they work for me.

It's probably a by-product of the fact that more Internet-users that are politically oriented are Liberal and the formulas set by Google reward higher traffic.

    Good question!
I use google, bing and yahoo but more and more, bing. I know these engines well so i can find anything that is not affected by the new government internet stranglehold laws.
Most engines are heavily influenced by google(a few hide the fact). I have a top web site and just checked results...bing(microsoft) and yahoo are the same as bing runs yahoo search.

Yeah, i gathered that from the question... but you're ruling out the best service there, for something that your lone boycott will make no difference on. (well, maybe something like $2 a year from loss of advertising revenue... But google contracts are usually something like $1 for every thousand hits... and i doubt you use google that much...)
    Anyway, alternates.
As i said, Bing, but they're crap and microsoft.
    Yahoo, Ask, Dogpile...
