What happened to War?
People are bombing homes and villages rather than lining up in battle fields. Women and children are dying each day... there should be rules of war when it comes to protecting the innocent people caught in crossfire.

+5That's why this "war on terror" should be an elite force/intelligence operation...They should also provide refuges for the innocent people who don't want to harbor the terrorists in their village, after all, the terrorists are killing them too.
But now, the enemy doesn't wear uniforms, we use unmanned drones operated half a word away by a kid who was great at video games. A bomb kills millions. And war seems to affect only the families of those fighting it - and the innocents that are considered 'collateral damage'.

In Afghanistan we couldn't have a battlefield because AQ lived in the mountains and our vehicles couldn't cope with them. The roads through the mountains are in the valleys between so we would be sitting ducks (which has already happened for some convoys).
But I agree with the premise of your question.

and so on. War is a horrible and petty thing that usually originates from Jealousy, difference in religious/political beliefs, and fear. Once we can put these primitive trappings behind us the better off we will be.
I think there are some restrictions, such as chemical warfare, anyway.

The Goal of Islam and Communism both is world domination. Islam came Close, but ended up being beaten back out of Europe when the Ottoman Empire was taken down. Bringing out troops home, sounds like a good idea. But it will not endear the ChiComs or the Muslims and cause them to leave us alone.
The problem now is our country, or any other country can be totally crippled in Minutes with modern weaponry. And the country that strikes first, will be the winner. Period.

Whoever fires first is going to win - period. Nuke warfare has evolved. It is no longer fire and brimstone, but total shutdown of your enemy 2 minutes from launch. Indefensible. And it would not matter. A Missile launched to 100.000 ft is there in less than 2 minutes. Faster than any retaliatory measures could be taken.
Congress was briefed on this a couple of years ago. But we the People cant handle the truth.

And soon if they are not stopped, Iran will have the 21 st century weapons to initiate their 6 th century mentality. As it I if they were to attack our fleet in the Gulf of Hormuz, we do not have enough power to stop them short of Nukes. And we have vowed to never use Nukes unless they are used against us first.
Our ships over there are in range of thousands of Land Based and proven missiles. More than could be defended against.

This Thread asks "What Happened to War?" Well War has evolved folks, and it aint your Muskets and bullets any more.
Here's the problem....and its a problem mainly of OUR enimies, the terrorists and foriegn military hide with innocent people...they use them to protect their sorry asses..They hide in churches,they use children to carry bombs and weapons. When we went to war with IRAQ,
4 days into the war, you could not find any of Saddam's prized Republican Guard that would stand and fight....They ALL put on civilian clothes and hid amongst the innocent, to come back later as car bombers...
You Dont see regular US Army soldiers hiding among the innocent for protection, its our enimies who NEVER play by the rules...
More than 1,000 children died last year in afghanistan, 1200 Americans with guns died in the past decade in Afghanistan. ALL of them died for Pakistani oil pipelines and millions of lives have been ruined, sounds to me like your the terrorist.
