What Does the Public Know?

There are no tricks here - just a simple test to see if you are current on your information about the U.S. Government. Should be very easy for most sodaheads.
This is a good test but the results are shocking. Let me know if you agree with that after you take the short test and look at the test results.
Test your knowledge with 12 questions, then be ready to shudder when you see how others did.

I better get all twelve right.
Unemployment Rate - I thought more than 10%
Cap & Trade question - Went with Banking not Energy & Environment.
I know them now! LOL
Where I live, the unemployment rate for the State is 12.5% as of today. My county is the lowest in the State with 10.5% and there is one county that has over a 21% rate.
Cap and trade deals with pollution and the ever popular "carbon footprint".
At least you learned from your mistakes. Referring back to our previous discussion, I had so many students who made the same mistake over and over yet when I tried to correct it, they often took it as chastising.
When I think back however, I was far from the only one. Others just handled it differently.
As for the unemployment rate...yes I know each state is different. May state was at 6.4% by the end of October. I have no idea by county, but I am sure that varies widely.
The difference is about 35 - 45 years between when you finished school and when I taught. I often observed, especially those who took it as chastising them, that they felt everything they did was the best thing since sliced bread. I believe a lot of that comes from the system itself at the lower grades when teachers tell a student that what they did was great despite having factual, as well as, presentation errors related to "Enlish" type things. I recall a group of 10th graders the last year I taught chastising me for not telling them a group progject was "great". It wasn't and I wasn't going to tell them it was. It was a four day project. The first day involved research in the library with the next two days in class preparing it for a presentation, and the final day being group presentations. When it came time to prepare the project for two days, this group had very little information. There excuse was we couldn't find anything yet they never asked once for help during the 1 1/2 class time the day before. When whatever they prepared was poorly done, they expected me to tell them it was fabulous. When whatever they prepared was poorly done, they expected me to tell them it was fabulous. I identified what they had done that was good and fit with what was expected but also identified the numerous things missing that had been given to them on a list the day before we started the project. One girl in the group put it very well. Why don't high school teachers tell us what we do is good. I want to go back to middle school, they told us everything we did was good. To me, that was part of the problem. I let her know that if she did something great, I would tell her so but if it wasn't up to what was expected at this level, she shouldn't expect to hear that it was great.
Being the shy kid in the class I always viewed things from a distance. I have to admit I was shocked to find out, once out of school, how messed up my perspective was. Not that I did a complete about face, but for the first time I saw things the way the really are.
One thing I never fully understood however. If someone is shy or withdrawn many times the other kids will pick on them. I saw that happen, often. But you know they never once picked on me and I have no idea why and I doubt I will ever understand that.
There were many times in school that I needed teachers like you. No teacher ever bragged me up, had no reason too I think, but they never pointed out what I did wrong either. As you can tell writing, English grammar, and I did not get along. I had to learn what little I know long after school.
Well thank you. Great to get another perspective on something like that. If I had come to understand this when in grade school my life may well have been very different. Self confidence, and attitude is everything. I am not complaining mind you. It truly has been an adventure but......
I did what I could to include everyone in the class. I didn't wait for a hand to go up to call on someone. I assumed that if they were in the class, they wanted to answer. I didn't belittle or embarrass them in the process, I simply called on those who were involved and the shy ones as well.
That is what I see when I run into a former student who was shy or not the best performer. Some come out of it and some don't. Those that do simply matured at a later age and those that didn't may very well never do so.
