What do you think of the Stand your ground law?

I think it was about time a law was made to protect innocents from gangsta thugs!!!
The “stand your ground” law allows someone to attack a perceived
assailant if they believe they are in imminent danger. 24 states have
adopted it. Florida’s version of that legislation initially provided
protection from prosecution for George Zimmerman in the Trayvon Martin
shooting case. Even though the case has not yet been adjudicated in a
court of law, and the evidence appears to exonerate Zimmerman, the left
is exploiting the Trayvon Martin shooting case with race-baiting to drum
up negative publicity against ALEC and other associated organizations
on the right like the NRA. Color of Change has Martin’s photo featured
prominently at the top of its website.
IF I SEE THIS COMING TWDS ME I AM GOING TO BE READY..

It's about freaking time law-abiding American Citizens got on an even (and now legal) keel with thugs and criminals! I, as a law abiding American Citizen, shouldn't be prosecuted for temporarily or even permanently immobilizing a would-be murderer or assailant (UNLAWFUL citizen or illegal foreign national), even with deadly force, after the fact in a court of jokes, and thrown in prison for the rest of my life (or fined out of any hopes of having a life even if I'm not thrown in prison for the rest of my life, or executed) for simply protecting and defending my life (or my hypothetical family's lives), limb or property from scum criminals and thugs who would endeavor to rob me of any of the aforementioned!

OPPOSITIONS TO THIS AND HEAVY INFRINGEMENTS OF LAWS LIKE THIS AND ESPECIALLY THE SECOND AMENDMENT (WHICH PROTECTS THE OWNERSHIP AND USE BY LAW ABIDING AMERICAN CITIZENS TO USE AND CARRY ANY AND ALL 'ARMS' AND WHICH WAS AND NEVER HAS BEEN UNTIL RECENT HISTORY LIMITED TO JUST FIREARMS, OR CERTAIN KINDS) IS JUST PROOF THAT MARXIST (I REFUSE TO USE ANY CRYPTIC PSEUDONYM'S THEREOF) "POLITICAL CORRECTNESS" (DOUBLE-STANDARDOM) IS KILLING THIS NATION!!!

In Britain, there have been many cases where people have been prosecuted for defending themselves or their property so I see what the law is trying to do. However, the fear is that it could be an excuse for vigilateism.

The law itself was constructed for a legitimate purpose. The Martin case has twisted and bent this law into something that it is not. The law is a good one. The subsequent investigation and analysis of the actual facts is the important component of the law. Unfortunately, the Black Panthers, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and even our own fearless leader have been distorting it and using the distortion to fuel a race war in this country.

Oh, and by the way, Hispanics in America, welcome to my world. I'm a white lady. Used to be all minorities against whites. Hispanics fell into the minority category for a long time; made an easy partnership for the hate mongers. Imagine the looks on their faces when our heroes jumped the gun and pulled the race card once again before bothering to check out Mr. George Zimmerman. Name sure sounded like a white guy, didn't it? You have just got to love these people, they're right out of the comic books.

You are so right! Can't determine a persons race or nationality by their name..There a lot of blacks with Irish names but they don't have a drop of Irish blood..

Yeah, and add to that the constant mixing of all kinds of races in America. Used to be folks were full-blooded [whatever]. Then came half-[this] and half-[that]. Now we're into the generations that have a little bit of this, little bit of that, so on and so forth. So my question is what are the hate mongers going to do then, when you can't just look at a person and tell what their national origin is? I've been waiting a long, long time for this to finally happen. Whew! Gosh, do you think maybe it'll come to a point where people get judged by their own actions and character as opposed to what their ancestors may or may not have done? Oh, wow, would that not be neat? [I know, I'm a dreamer!]

I believe in the law. I don't believe, however, that Zimmerman was in danger, nor, do I believe he THOUGHT he was in danger! He was told to not pursue Martin, and he did anyway. I think THAT is more to the point in that situation! If you believe you are in emminent danger, you do not go after that danger. You try to get away from it.

Now the Martins and company are unhappy with Zims apology as they say it was only so he could get bail..LOL..If i were Zim, i would have said, I am sorry for your loss but i am not sorry i defended myself. The Martins do not care about the truth at all..they don't care that it was their son who was the aggressor..they don't care that their son was on suspension from school for 10 days..that's why he was hanging out at his stepmothers. If you saw Martins Twitter acct and his tweets with friends, then you know he was a small time drug dealer and user..and he had a mouth full of gold and bunch of tats so he obviously was doing well..plus he had a jewelry business going and they found some in his backpack along with some robbery tools..and a pot baggie and on his Twitter acct it is clear that he was a gang member. They have since scrubbed his acct..now with all this info, some are still fiercely defending the gangsta thug..they WANT Zim to be guilty of cold blooded murder! It is just preposterous!! When you listen to the 911 tape, see the cell phone pic of Zims bloody head and listen to the witnesses that saw Martin on top of Zim and he was screaming for help..NOT Martin as much as some would like it to be..all this adds up to SELF DEFENSE!!! Martin was NOT on the path to righteou...

Martin was NOT on the path to righteousness..not by any means at all! He, as a gangsta, wanted some revenge for being called a suspect and for being followed, so instead of going on his way to the stepmothers apt, he ambushed Zim as that's what gangstas do!!!

On the 911 call, Zimmerman says there is a "GENTLEMAN" (yes, he called Martin a gentleman) that has been walking around, and the operator asked what race he was and Zim says black..and then he goes on to say the guy had on a black leather jacket and a black bomber hat..and printed pajama pants.. It is so so clear that he was giving the description so when the cops came they would know who to look for!!! He describes what Martin is doing and then says, i don't want to approach him personally...I don't want to approach him!!! That in itself says he reported what he observed and then went to his vehicle!!! If he was a wannabe cop like some are calling him, then why didn't he tell Martin to freeze or something? He did absolutely nothing but call 911 and then went back to his car and was AMBUSHED by Martin!

    George's brother said..

"What he said was, 'Hi, I'm calling because there have been a significant number of break-ins in my community. You don't call the police and then kill somebody. George's expectation was that the police would shortly be there. And that's it! Maybe that's what made George think that the police should be in the area, so that the police could make the determination if that person was suspicious."

Stand your ground laws are misinterpreted as a license to kill. They're not. They permit a person the option of either retreating to safety or engaging an attacker. If retreat is required when it is available, a victim risks being shot in the back while retreating. Whatever happens, a person is still responsible for their action; they don't get a free pass for firing a weapon if it wasn't reasonably necessary.
