What do you think of huge sanctions for Penn State?

one is 60 million fine to be paid for fund for abused kids.....many sports scholarships removed etc etc in other words Education will come before Sports.Penn will be monitored for 5 years. no bowl games for 4 years.Reduced Scholarships from 40 to 15 Removed past games wins...thus JP no longer most winner coach.

    The whole scenario is very sad, very disturbing. NCAA had to do this, had to send a message even though all involved are no longer associated with PS - unfortunately, it's the students who are being hurt here.

    What I can't understand is all the people who knew this was going on, and covered it up, didn't report it. Not reporting suspected child abuse here in Texas can land you in jail - perhaps Pennsylvania should have this same law...........

    To me it makes no sense to punish the football players they did not molest anyone and as far as the Reduced Scholarship that makes no sense either...students did nothing why are they being punished..Punish the school by taking more money from them..

    Very appropriate, now lets go after prosecuting attorneys who knowing put innocent people in jail by withholding evidence or presenting false evidence.

    Still one should not punish the innocent. What of the people who need the scholarship to attend college? Should they not be permitted to go?

    In today's society everyone gets punished makes no difference if you where not there and did not know and did nothing wrong you get taken down and destroyed along with the guilty. Sounds real fair ..right..not!

    I think the NCAA was very harsh in their assessment of blame. Striping the school of the wins in football and taking and tarnishing the record of Joe Paterno is absurd.
    Paterno, the longtime Penn State head coach, had 111 wins dating to 1998 vacated from his record as part of the NCAA's sanctions announced Monday, which also included $60 million in fines, a four-year bowl ban and a loss of scholarships in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky sexual assault scandal.

    That leaves Paterno with an official win tally of 298, well behind Bobby Bowden's official career tally of 377.
    " Bowden said in a statement released Monday afternoon. "No sanctions, no amount of money, and no penalties could ever repay or repair the damage done to those young boys. I just hate the way all of this has happened."

    Am I missing something here..didn't the players make those wins..then the wins belong to them with their sweat and hard work..they should not be stripped of them..why punish the football players that had nothing to do with it..taking away scholarships..punishing students that again had nothing to do with it..crazy to punish the innocent

    I agree, but I really can't get my brain around that they covered this up for even 1 minute, much less so very long, and allowed it to continue. How in the world do these people live with themselves, how do they look in the mirror? It's just beyond me, and I hope I never, ever am at a point that I understand.

    They live with it fine, just like the church members who move a child molesting priest from one church to the next knowing he will continue to molest little boys. All of these soulless bastards have no problem sleeping at night or looking at themselves in the mirror. They know what they are inside ..evil..and what they see in the mirror is who we fail to see.. the devil. You and I can not stomach it and if I saw it happening I most likely would have murdered that puke right there in the showers as I would have been out of control with anger and rage seeing a child being hurt. That is the difference we care about children and their well being..to them children are just a tool for them to use for their sexual gratification..

    I live in PA and I think the sanctions are right on and I would even like more to be done, JoePa had so many fooled and he should be stripped of every thing. I also believe that his wife knew but had to keep her mouth closed.

    This is the proper response.

    They punish the institution monetarily in an effort to help abused children.

    They punish one of the chief individuals responsible by destroying his legacy by vacating wins.

    They punish the institution as an example for others to maintain control by reducing scholarships and stopping postseason berths.

    But they don't unfairly punish fans and players who were not involved by completely closing the team down.

    This was a good punishment.

    I feel bad for the kids. They didnt ask for this...they are being penalized for something they had no control over. Fines are fine, wiping out Joe Pas records, but let the kids play ball. That part just isn't fair, punishment for those who had nothing to do with any of it isn't just..

    That's not the point, sure transfer, why not just have the state of Pennsylvania close down their state college completely? That would make just about as much sense. Punish the college officials who knew of this and covered it up, punish them to the fullest extent of the law. Do not punish the innocent who had no involvement with any of it.

    No one remaining at Penn State deserves such punishment. Why should a school fire anyone out of principle, if the school will be abused anyway?
