I am a Catholic ... I know that the Lord Jesus Christ through Scripture. And I know God is LOVE. When two people in a relationship really love each other and with the love that they support each other and develop good, I believe that's true love and that's good. Love like this everyone can do the heterosex, homosex (gay n lesbian). Based on this I ask: What's wrong with gays and lesbians?

I don't believe anyting that involves love & doesn't harm another is wrong! No religion can have that much power over my spiritual & moral moral beliefs...& no one can tell me that being gay is a choice or harms people who aren't gay! I also believe all men are created equal.

How did anal sex lead you all the way over the bridge to gay marriage? Do you believe that it's wrong to have extra-marital sex? Do you need marriage to make your sex right in the eyes of God? I seriously doubt it.

well, some straight folks say gay marriage is not about "love" as much as "sex" and if there is "Nothing wrong with it if that's what you want, however it's not ideal and it's always just a variation or substitute", then what's the problem?

I don't know anyone who is saying that gay marriage is about sex. You don't need marriage to have sex so how could that be any part of it? I personally believe that gay marriage is about two things. The first is benefits that you get from marriage, like insuring your spouse and certain tax benefits. The reason that I believe that gay's want marriage as opposed to civil unions with all the same exact benefits is that marriage is seen as a "trophy" of sorts that says the homosexuality is normal sexual behavior and that society has accepted you as normal. That's why the word is so necessary.

It's not about love because you don't need marriage for love, you just love. If I hadn't been allowed to marry my husband we'd still be together and in love. The marriage license doesn't guarantee monogamy or love.

no it doesn't, but do straight people have a monopoly on the word "marriage" if we were going to give them "civil unions" with all the same rights, privileges, and tax benefits as marriage, then you might as well say it's a marriage, what's the use calling it some other crap?

Yes, straight people do have a monopoly on the word "marriage" since that is what it has meant in our history. Marriage is sacred to the Christian between one man and one woman. What is the point of a gay couple getting married other than for the benefits? I personally don't think it if was allowed it would be such a big deal. My husband's best friend is a lesbian and she has been in a long term relationship and would have no intentions of marrying. I think the percentage of gay marriages would be really small if it wasn't mistakenly seen as some kind of equality trophy.

You didn't read what I wrote, you heard what you wanted to hear. You do know that 1988 is 24 years ago, right? Morality has declined in America, that's for sure. I think further erosion is not going to help society. I've been married twice, my first husband failed to inform me he was gay so I'm not taking the fall for that one and I'll be celebrating 29 years with my second one tomorrow. 29 monogamous years and it's not because we have that piece of paper that says we're married.

My ex-husband had a long term relationship with a younger man that put him so far in debt despite his high income and while they didn't get married they were so legally intertwined that they essentially had to divorce because of all their joint property. If you want to see an ugly split, watch two gay men go at it. Our divorce with a child involved was child's play in comparison. He even admits it. Now he's got a boytoy who's 21 and he's 58. He works 60 hours a week and the boy and his other boys play around and drive expensive cars. They are all sluts.

But look what has happened to the black family for example. During reconstruction black men and women walked all over the country trying to find their families and children and now today they want nothing to do with their own children. We've eroded society by taking the traditional father and provider and inserting the state.

I don't think that is the problem, I just think most men (across the color spectrum) don't know how to be a good husband/father so they leave, and there are good ones (across the color spectrum) that marry and are good husbands and fathers

And the reason why many men don't know how to be a good father and husband is because they've never grown up in a stable family home. We're on the second and third generation now. We've given men the opportunity to have sex, procreate, claim them and not take care of them or even pay for them. It's destroying our society because these children aren't doing well in school and aren't getting educated. The breakdown of the family is the key factor.

Gay parents do raise children. Do I think they should adopt? I don't think a child would opt for gay parents, I think they deserve a mother and a father. I think that's optimum but we do have a lot of children in less than optimum conditions. Do you think that white families should be allowed to adopt black children?

He's such a drama queen...first, the laws that he's talking about were not about marriage, they were about race. It was the Jim Crow laws and that laws of slavery that he's talking about. The laws instituted by Democrats and protected by Democrats.

Let's not get the ideas of love and marriage all mixed up. No one is saying you can't love someone or that a piece of paper is going to keep you together and monogamous.

If you're a Christian homosexuality is a sin. It's never been and never will be a sin to be black. He's mixing apples and oranges and his elitist rant doesn't change that.

This is the kind of thing that appeals to the liberal, all heart and absolutely no brain involved.

but what about the separation of church and state?--how can a rule based in religion have place in Government?
the reason they can't marry all comes from the bible, what if a gay couple is non-religious?
  • Gracie ... C-ZAR™,... 2012/05/21 04:18:06 (edited)
    Gracie - Proud Conservative
There is no true separation between church and state, only that there will be no federal religion. All of our laws and even the Constitution is based on Christian-Judeo laws. In reality it is the state that hi-jacked marriage, probably for the taxation involved. All civil marriages should be considered civil unions and marriages should be reserved for the church. When I go looking for the marriages of my ancestors I don't go to the government, I go to the churches.

This is what happens when you put lawyers in charge. The one thing that is hard to contest is that the majority of society doesn't want gay marriage. It has failed in every attempt when left to the people. It was the black and hispanic vote that took down Prop 8, not the churches or the white man.

Oh, and I forgot to say that if gay people aren't religious, which they really aren't, why again would marriage be important? It's not like they're against premarital sex

you're placing them ALL into a box, that's stereotyping Gracie, and even if they DO go to gay clubs, that is their business, how does that affect you or I?
there are other things to do at gay clubs besides hook up, they drink, dance, socialize, just like us straight folks

I'm not placing them ALL into a box but there is a reason for stereotypes, they usually have a large element of truth to it. That's how you get a stereotype! There is a large amount of hooking up in gay clubs.

You're stretching this out into something that it's not. My point is that the gay lifestyle has very little to do with monogamy no matter how many people I've had tell me that "their gay friends" are all monogamous. I've found that not to be the case but of course it doesn't matter to me.

I'm all for civil unions. Even in the UK they rejected gay marriage and they have civil unions. If you want to legally join yourself to another I think that's fine. I do think it's just a attempt to make society accept homosexuality to a far greater degree than anything else.

Anatomy is only relevant when reproduction is your ultimate goal, but people have sex for many reasons, to express love/passion, to feel close, to exercise, to release tension, to experience joy/pleasure and often they do those things whilst using forms of contraceptives that prevent reproduction.
