He runs a protection racket with big companies as the victims.
Unlike the mob he threatens calling the company racist. To prevent that and the ensuing boycotts and protests companies 'donate' to his 'causes'.

Being accused of racism is a hard accusation to disprove and you're always under suspicion after that.. It's cheaper for a company to pay up.

Of course these few are far outnumbered by all the times Sharpton has been wrong as with Tawana Brawley, Bernhard Goetz, Crown Heights, Freddie's Fashion Mart, Duke LaCross Team and the horrific Dunbar Village rape of a Haitan woman where Sharpton came out on the side of the rapists. With the last one I guess Haitains aren't black enough for him.
