What are the definitions of "Basic Human Rights"?

Roger 2012/06/10 21:06:40
In a previous disccussion the subject of basic human rights came up. I am so tierd of hearing the term used when it comes to social issues. Health Care for one I do not feel is a basic human right because free healthcare infringes on another person to supply it to you at Thier expense. Free food, a home, a car, are not basic human rights. Helping those in need is a charitable act in which Americans have always been exemplary at providing for those in need. But to claim them as rights is just not true. And this BS of a right to free contraception don't get started there.

I am just courious as to what you all think is a Basic Human Right?
You!

You nailed it Dale, nothing more and nothing less. Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. These three are the basic and only human rights. Everything else is an over stepping of government powers and control.

I'd say it's being able to do anything you want to do as long as it doesn't infringe on the physical rights of another or their property.

Free Healthcare does not count because, if you demand a doctor to treat you without you paying you are infringing on their physical rights, and in a socialized healthcare system you are forcing the taxpayer to pay the doctor to give you healthcare.

Grand junction? Lived there, Fruita, and Paonia for several years. Great chart by the way. Not sure I agree with it all as being a right. I think sex would not really be a basic human right. See that more as a path to happiness and spirituality.
