Westboro Baptist Church Bails On Whitney Houston's Funeral But Tweets Photoshopped Image Of Protest

Westboro Baptist Church members had vowed to picket Whitney Houston's funeral this weekend in Newark, but numerous media outlets reported that no one from the notorious Kansas-based groupever showed up.

Still, that didn't stop Margie J. Phelps, daughter of Westboro founder Fred Phelps, from tweeting what appears to be a Photoshopped image of protesters descending upon the New Hope Baptist Church, where Houston's funeral was held:

It is unclear why Westboro would have taken such an issue with Houston, who was known as a devout Christian and began her singing career as a member of the choir at New Hope. Phelps did imply that Houston's gay fanbase may have played a factor, tweeting: "F--k call her 'gay icon.' Yeah, WBC is picketing that funeral." They also released a YouTube parody clip titled, "God Will Always Hate You, Whitney" (to the tune of Houston's signature cover of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You").

Having previously protested at the funerals of Matthew Shepard, Michael Jackson and Steve Jobs, Westboro Baptist Church has, in recent months, bailed out on several planned protests. Earlier this month, members announced plans to picket two Missouri high schools, but only showed up at one.

I wish they would have tried this in Newark @Houston's funeral. I really do not believe it would have been a typical WBC (Westboro Baptist Cult) protest.

These people aren't Christians at all. We are not here to judge others, that's God's job. Only he knows what was in Whitney's heart and only he can make judgement.

Oh, I so wanted them to show up for THIS funeral. Those images would have been soooo diferent. They would have NEVER picketed another funeral again. In fact, they probably wouldn't want to present for one of their own funerals after that. I was looking forward to eating popcorn while watching them get their asses beat DOWN. Damnit!! So disappointed!

I love these guys. They are straight-up comedy gold! I hope when I die, they picket my funeral. I'm a soldier, and I've done volunteer work for the Human Rights Campaign. I've also taught the class on the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell to the soldiers in my unit, and I petitioned my Republican Senator at the time, to vote "yay" on the repeal.
Based on this, I would like to issue a standing invitation to the WBC to come to my funeral. I'll even put in my will that I want you to have 2 minutes to speak.
The way I see it, if the most hateful people in my country, hate me, it must be because I represent love. And that's a legacy of which I'd be VERY proud.

They hinted that it's because she has a gay following. I'm sure almost every artist has at least a few gay fans. I never would have pictured her in a league with Lady Gaga or Madonna, but apparently they do.
