I just remembered that there's a thread on SH about "pizza face" Michael Moore being an NRA member too, but he joined as a publicity stunt. I say let them send their money. It doesn't bother me & the NRA really appreciates it ha ha..
The people that really dissappoint me are the ones that "claim" they are avid 2nd amendment supporters, & own guns, BUT when I notify them that there is gun control legislation in their own State legislature & send them the information & links where they can email their state reps to persuade them NOT to vote for any gun control, they write back to me & say, "I don't want to get involved in your politics" WTF? How can they not get involved when this is their 2nd amendment right? Are they just lazy or is it ignorance?

I joined as a result of current events,plus I can invest in gold and silver to further support a shared cause .I find their history fascinating they were founded by Union soldiers who taught black folks how to shoot so they could protect themselves from Southerners most of whom were Democrats wanting to return,maim,or kill them.

Actually my membership has lapsed but I was for about 20 years and the NRA provided good gun safety instruction and of course was essentially required for the range. I have 3 guns that I keep secured in a gun safe used for hunting (and bear protection while hunting and camping). I've never felt I needed for self protection from people (as I don't live in an area with any real statistical danger) although ironically I've recently been more aware of the gun for protection just hearing about some of the morons I know who have acquired guns. I suggested to one that he take a safety class and his comment was 'I already know how to load and shoot. I think it would be boring.' Oh my....

Yes there are some that grow up with them,and feel no need for training.
But as long as they use them for sport or self defense
They have that right.

You know if the dude in question (there is a specific acquaintance I have in mind) here had grown up with guns I'd be less concerned. This is his first gun. Even when you're brought up with guns (I was shooting an Enfield 30-06 at 10 years old) I really believe that just like driving a car you need to display an understanding of gun safety. Who's to say your parents weren't reckless drivers or gun users. That 'right' is not absolute and SCOTUS has clearly held that there can be limitations to that right. Civil debate as to the benefits of specific limitations* are fine and good but the people who are blindly saying that background checks and other proposals somehow violate the 2nd are simply ignorant of constitutional law and precedent.
* I'm very much in favor of most proposed gun control measures but regardless of any constitutional argument I'm skeptical of the practicality and cost/benefit return on clip size / assault weapons legislation. That's open for discussion to me as long as somebody doesn't say that the 2nd won't allow that discussion because they are wrong.

I'll tell you what,
It will not stop with clips and registration and so called assault weapons.
