Yep, it looks like romance is still alive -- at least for the gaming community.
Gary Hudston promised his girlfriend of five years, Stephy, that he'd propose to her one day in a "geeky" and "unique" way. But no one was expecting this.
Stephy was just about done opening all her birthday presents when Hudston suggested they play some "Portal 2."
"She was confused at first, but played along as she knew I was clearly up to something," Hudston told Yahoo! Games. "She tells me that it crossed her mind that it might be a proposal but she decided that she was getting ahead of herself and that it was probably just an elaborate birthday gift."
How did Hudston make it happen? He reached out to the creators of "Portal 2" and the modding community to make his idea a reality. The result was an exclusive set of levels for "Portal 2" that led to a proposal voiced by the game's charming villain, GLaDOS.
"...She realized that GLaDOS was talking directly to her," Hudston said. "From that point on she was quiet, save for some muttered disbelief and, by the time GLaDOS was asking her the question, she was in tears. When she looked over to me I was already on one knee with the ring. Also in tears."
Wow. Talk about unique and sappy all at the same time!
Are video games a cool way to propose or is it too weird for your taste?

Honestly, how is this any different from, say, a giant screen at a sporting arena, or any other incorporation of what 2 people love together into a proposal? Gaming in general is about choice. Every moment in a game, you make choices that effect the game state. Why not use that to underscore how important one of the most important choices you will ever make in life is?

Start at about 6 minutes to skip the more game-like parts.
Here we have a big company of game developers help one customer, one guy, one person in their community ask his wife to marry him. If you played the game, you would know the lengths that would have been went through to make this happen. Now there's maybe millions of gamers out there inspired by this couples love. How could anyone criticize that?
Congratulations Gary and Stephy.
Or am I giving him too much credit and he's just an ass?
GLaDOS should marry me. qq.
It is more about matching a proposal to the characteristics of your partner. It shows you that you have a deep understanding into the mind of through loved one.
Some people respond to flowers, others to volunteering of your time to a charity, some only to money.
