For $799,000 you can rent the entire scenic country of Liechtenstein for almost two weeks.
Or... you could buy the not-so-scenic ghost town of Scenic, S.D. Permanently.
Decisions, decisions...
What was once a rough little farming town in South Dakota -- complete with a school, a grocery store, a church and two jails -- is now little more than a dusty row of abandoned structures, but owner Twila Merril thinks the town still has a future.
Her daughter, LeeAnn Keester, told The Rapid City Journal, "The businesses and land has always been family-run, but now, it’s time for someone else to come in and bring it back to life ... It’ll be sad to let it all go. I have a lot of memories there, and I’m really going to miss it. I hope the person who buys it really enjoys it like we did."
These days Merril is in poor health and simply not in the condition to be living in such a remote and isolated area, so she's been forced to relocate to Minnesota where she can receive the medical attention she needs, and for her that means now is the time to sell the area she's been buying up, lot by lot, for much of her life.
The ghost town still contains a post office, a convenience store, a couple of houses, and a few aesthetic structures like a saloon, a museum and the jails.
Perfect for a low-budget Western or David Lynch's next film, maybe a mild tourism business, but not much else.

I have the plot right here in my head... And it's great :)
Oh wait a minute.. he bankrupted Fannie May.. guess it's up to S.D. to save it.
You can learn history from books but it will never rival the experience of seeing things for yourself. Just like in Holland we try to preserve windmills with private money so the kids of tomorrow can see how it worked in the past i hope American kids will have that opportunity with their country's legacy. We can only learn from the past and preserving what we have left of that is the best (and not to mention most fun and interesting) way
Second was "ooh! Wild West Steampunk town!" But, I'm a dork, that way :)
