Thank you for this post. How unfortunate the news does not highlight the pro-American rallies in Libya. The people shown here I believe are the true Muslims, as opposed to the radicals and extremists.

Anyone that thinks these attacks on US Embassies and Consulates, as well as other western nations diplomatic outposts, is a 'spontaneous protest' against some insult to Islam is deluded. These are about as spontaneous as 'protests' used to be in the Soviet Union. As long as our response stays passive they will continue and escalate. The world burns and Nero fiddles.

Passive? Try asking bin Laden or about twenty other terrorists Obama's had killed how weak or "passive" they think he's been. And if theses attacks are as you claim based on your wishful thinking narrative then how weak was W perceived to be on 9/11. The facts support a picture that the attack on the consulate was payback for Obama having the # 2 al-Qaeda leader killed and not any weakness. Your argument doesn't hold water and is based only on your partisanship. Keep trying though.

Or do they represent Islam? Any of you ever read the Quran? There's countless references to killing or forcing Jews and Christians into submissive society where Muslims preside over them. This is a religion that teaches that's it's ok to lie to a non-believer in order to get what you want, that it's ok to cheat and steal, it's ok to treat women like second class people, that you cannot be friends with non-beleivers. Wake up people, COEXISTENCE is a joke!

There are countless references to such horrible relics of the past in every religious text. Most followers of every religion ignore them. And the Quran is surprisingly intelligent on the subjects of religious tolerance and women's rights when compared with the books of other religions.

two points: 1) not like the Quran 2) Western culture is intelligent enough, developed enough, and rational enough to realize that ancient text has a perspective. These people believe today what they did 2,000 years ago, and will continue to to believe it 2,00 years from today. This also is not about a stupid video, this is about making the world Islam, which is another goal of the Muslim world, but not through teaching but through force. Many scholars have also debunked the progressive attacks on the old tesitment numerous times as well.

    1) Yes, like the Quran. I'm sure we can both find countless quotes from all such texts both supporting and opposing violent action, and if you really want to go there, I'm willing to.
    2) The fact that western culture does take this intelligent position is a result of a better economic and educational situation, not of anything inherent in religion. People of all religions in less-developed countries are more prone to religious violence than those in first-world countries. And even then, a majority of Muslims still do act and think as those pictured above. You claim that the Muslim world, as a whole, desires religious dominance through force. Prove it.

Then go there but be honest about it. This was an exuse to attack us and the west doesn't indoctrinate their children that Jews and Christains should be brought to submission under Sharia or destroyed. You need to wake up.

Most Muslims don't either. Just some of those in especially militant and theocratic countries, which are a significant minority in the world's total population of Muslims. And I'd appreciate it if you didn't insult me. Doing so is bad argumentation, and therefore a wast of my time.

thats why images and occasions like this are so powerful.

Edit: its not like the nazis in Germany vs the good Germans, where you can say that those who did nothing are as bad as those who did wrong. These are people living in almost full blown civil wars, just trying to make sure they wake up the next morning, they flee their countries and become refugees in another more often then not.

Muslims for "peace"? For the Muslim, “peace” means the absence of conflict that arises when there are no other belief systems besides Islam. The way Islam brings peace
to a land is by terminating the existence, by one means or another, of all other ways of life. Peace exists when everyone has submitted to the Islamic system. That is muslims peace and tolerance. When a Muslim tells you that “Islam means peace,” he is being truthful, but in a dishonest way. He is counting on you to apply your definition of “peace” (accepting of others beliefs and lifestyles) to the statement, when the Muslim really has in mind his connotation of the term – which is a far different thing indeed.
