We knew this was coming. Catholic dioceses, colleges sue over Obama mandate - Hooray!

Chi~Cat 2012/05/22 14:00:55
Roman Catholic leaders opened a new front against the Obama administration mandate that employers provide workers birth control coverage, filing federal lawsuits Monday on behalf of dioceses, schools and health care agencies that argued the requirement violates religious freedom.

Among the plaintiffs is the University of Notre Dame, which in February had praised President Barack Obama for pledging to accommodate religious groups and find a way to soften the rule. Notre Dame president, the Rev. John Jenkins, said the school had since decided to sue because "progress has not been encouraging" in talks with administration officials.

The lawsuits have been filed in eight states and the District of Columbia by the Archdioceses of Washington and New York, the Michigan Catholic Conference, Catholic Charities in Illinois, Mississippi, Missouri and Indiana, health care agencies in New York and two dioceses in Texas.

"We have tried negotiation with the administration and legislation with the Congress, and we'll keep at it, but there's still no fix," said New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. "Time is running out, and our valuable ministries and fundamental rights hang in the balance, so we have to resort to the courts now."

May they prevail over the Usurper-in-Office. Only one that IS not a "True" American would force feed ITs socialistic agenda when it is "clear" that the majority of Americans and Employers do NOT want this nor do the the majority of Americans want Oblunder care. That's a fact.

Oh, yes, I know there will be naysayers, zip it or cross your legs. Or, you can just forgo your vice for an hour (and pay the $9.00 for a month's supply), that would be a novelty, wouldn't it? Pay for your own birth control and quit your crying. Truth hurts.

The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is also the first section of the Bill of Rights. It is arguably the most important part of the U.S. Constitution, as it guarantees freedoms of religion, speech, writing and publishing, peaceful assembly, and the freedom to raise grievances with the Government. In addition, it requires that a wall of separation be maintained between church and state. It reads:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

...read it again....the government is not to pass laws with respect to religion. They are also not prohibiting the free exercise of it. If you run a business of profit and have employees then you are subject to the common law. This is about Catholics wanting special treatment for their religious beliefs. No one is forcing Catholics to consume birthcontrol. (allthough we both know a vast majority of them already do) Not every person who works at a Catholic business is a Catholic. You are forcing your religious doctorine on them, by neglecting their right of choice and belief system. The government should never make laws based on religions and by you asking them to is going against the constitution!

So a college affiliated with Christian Science should be exempt from providing any health insurance to employees? They believe in prayer over medicine.

A muslim health organization could refuse to cover heart valve replacements if they're made from pig valves?

No. Churches themselves are already exempt. All other employers should answer to the same laws -- schools, hospitals, whatever.

So, it is okay for the government to use this as a biased attack on Americans?

edit: You miss the point. Love the blanket statement. Typical. What a clever way (though, not really) for the progs to attack our Bill of Rights. Take a while and think about it.

It's not an attack on anything to expect all non-church employers to follow the same rules about health coverage for employees.

That is moot. The fact remains that this was an attack by the US Government. Get that straight.

In this case, Ang74, it is not about the money; it is about US citizens rights. This is far more than a "religious" issue; it has to do with trouncing our rights. Thank you for your comment.

Please, this has more to do with smashing our Rights than religion.

edit: Do you not know that this country was founded upon Freedom of Religion, or did you forget; perhaps not taught the Constitution and the Bill of Rights? I wager you did not even read the forward. From you, that would be a stretch.

and i agree with the Freedom of Religion bit. but just because you don't like something because of your religious views doesn't mean you should push them on the people that work for you that doesn't follow them.
