Sounds like a hopeful young man got a rude awakening to the reality of the prejudices of people like the vice principle that act before they think.

On the part of the young man, his wish for the vp not to be fired is commendable.

I like that the kid doesn't want the AP fired. This is a grace, that most adults (certainly is AP) don't even have. Good for him.

The Assistant Principal ate humble pie... so what. I want his assurance that his narrow views will never influence a student again.

He deserves the embarrassment. He deserves a letter of reprimand, but as the student suggests, not fired.

Don't know if it is true or not but in the comment section of one of the blogs reporting about this a guy claiming to be a student at this school and was in this pageant said that their answers are not supposed to be political in nature. Now this news reporting says that this teen didn't violate any school rules. Doesn't say anything about pageant rules. Now if he truly didn't violate any pageant rules with his answer then I do think the assistant principal should see some disciplinary action, sensitivity training or something.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Remember that girl who had her Miss California crown stripped because she said she believes marriage should be between a man and a woman? I didn't hear her right to free speech defended by the pro-gay folks. So now, you have no right to complain.

I remember that, and I WAS defending her right for free speech, and I am a "pro-gay" (I don't know what pro-gay really means, I just defend people's rights).

Good for you, but a lot of people weren't. By "you", that is who I meant have no right to complain. "Pro gay" is a short way of saying "people who are in favor of gay marriage", but did I REALLY need to spell that out?

Okay first off, when did Conan O'Brien begin aging backwards?
Second, if a student had said "I hope to live in a world where gays can't marry", what would have happened? Would he apologize then?

That kid has heart and strength that most teenagers I know lack. I am so proud of him for keeping a level head and raising awareness.
