Was the Supreme Court's Decision on Arizona's Immigration Law Appropriate or Unjust?

The Supreme Court has finally come to a decision concerning Arizona's controversial immigration laws, put into effect in 2010. They struck down most aspects of the law, chiefly those dealing with how illegal immigrants are punished. However, the Court upheld the most controversial part of law -- the part that requires officers to check immigration status at lawful stops under reasonable suspicion.

Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote, "The national government has significant power to regulate immigration. Arizona may have understandable frustrations with the problems caused by illegal immigration while that process continues, but the state may not pursue policies that undermined federal law." Do you think the Supreme Court handled the case appropriately? Or did it use its power unfairly?

It's appropriate that they check, but unjust that they aren't just dumped back out into the desert. Every dollar we spend mollycoddling illegals is a dollar that could be spent on an American in need. Why don't we treat illegals like they are illegal?

When foreign "visitors" (whether they entered by the front door, or hopped the fence) get into scrapes with the law, they are entitled to certain protections, according to agreements the US has with the nation of citizenship. Now exactly how is law enforcement to know to contact an embassy if there is no conversation about residence/citizenship?

They followed the letter of the law, doing the minimum of their requirements...I agree with Arizona's original law, though.

It was a fine ruling that nicely interpreted the constitution. Arizona is free to help the Feds enforce Federal Law, if it wishes, but not free to create its own immigration laws. Illegal immigrants are illegal and enforcing our laws is everyone's responsibility. A state is not free, however, to place additional burdens on those who are legally in the country.

I'm sorry but if someone is stopped by the police for a violation of the law I don't find it unreasonable to check the status of their citizenship. If they're are here illegally then they should be deported.Millions of people from other countries live here and needn't worry about this because they took the time and put forth the effort to become American citizens. Why the uproar?

A well thought out decision. Prosecution and punishment are the domain of the federal government, no matter how tough it is to say it. The administration's reaction to AZ decision was childish, in the least, and criminally negligence at its worst.

I hate the results given the current and previous administration's lack of enforcement, but immigration IS the purview of the federal government.

The Supreme Court is the entity that decides what is constitutional, by a 5-4 majority they declared the Affordable Health Care Act to be CONSTITUTIONAL. Did you miss this lesson in your high school Government class? Do you actually perceive yourself to be above the Supreme Court? I don't think so! LMAO Quit your whining, we had to tolerate the Citizen's United ruling. It's the way our government works...if you don't like it, then leave!!!

Did you miss that the Republic was uninhabited when the southern states walked out and in 1871 a corporation pretended to take over? See http://republicfortheunitedst... Statute and ordinance is not the same as law and anyone who knows what admiralty court is knows that the Constitution has been set aside in favor of equity 'law' under the Uniform Commercial Code. Even YOU are a corporation, as evidenced in your birth certificate, driver's license and bank accounts. If you are written in all capital letters, they see you as:
    1. Deceased
    2. Ward of the State
    3. Corporation

And you don't know that OR how to reserve your rights as a human under the Constitution.

I was born in Indiana, first of all, have lived in California, Washington state, Utah and Arizona as well as here. Now, the south did have the right to secede and before Obie or Romney destroy it totally, you may see others do it again. So, no, I haven't forgotten anything I have thought ahead, too. Any other questions you want answered?

As an immigrant myself (pefectally legal) I am torn on this subject. I am 100% against racial profiling, however the illegal immigrant population needs to be controlled. But one more thing, will you guys stop with the whole "they should stay in their own country!" crap?!
