Was Ronald Reagan our greatest president.

The right has cannonized Reagan as our greatest president, but if the facts were known, they would have to agree that he was not quite the worst (we saved that for Dubya), but certainly near the bottom of the barrel.

Reagan was WORTHLESS. He did NOTHING. He added almost $2 Trillion of "1980 Money" to the Debt (TRIPLED) which equals over $10 TRILLION in 2012 Money based on economic power. That's an absurd amount for a Peacetime President.

    http://www.measuringworth.com...

Reagan's marquis reads: Star Wars! Iran Contra! The Bork Appointment! The Failed Israeli Invasion! And my personal favorite: The Funding of Osama bin Laden and the Mujahideen! Oh how Impressive!

Ronald Reagan blew the deficit up astronomically and said "deficits don't matter". His trickle down from the rich to the poor Voodoo economic policy never worked. He also said trees cause pollution. That's not great at all, much less words and policy from the greatest US President.

Before his presidency, he was the eighth Vice President (1833–1837) and the tenth Secretary of State, under Andrew Jackson (1829–1831).

Van Buren was a key organizer of the Democratic Party, a dominant figure in the Second Party System, and the first president not of British or Irish descent—his family was Dutch. He was the first president to be born a United States citizen,[2] his predecessors having been born British subjects before the American Revolution[3]. He is also the only president not to have spoken English as his first language, having grown up speaking Dutch,[4] and the first president from New York.

As Andrew Jackson's Secretary of State and then Vice President, Van Buren was a key figure in building the organizational structure for Jacksonian democracy, particularly in New York State. As president, he did not want the United States to annex Texas, an act which John Tyler would achieve eight years after Van Buren's initial rejection. Between the bloodless Aroostook War and the Caroline Affair, relations with Britain and its colonies in Canada also proved to be strained.

His administration was largely characterized by the economic hardship of his time, the Panic of 1837. He was scapegoated for the depression and called "Martin Van Ruin" by his political opponents. Van Buren was voted out of office after four years, losing to Whig candidate William Henry Harrison.

In 1848 Van Buren ran unsuccessfully for president on a third-party ticket, the Free Soil Party.
by the Way,..Andrew Jackson was My great great great grand father. So I know he was both a hero and A Villain.

He inherited a mess! (Sound familiar?)

But did he spend 8 years blaming his predecessor for all the problems? Absolutely not! Instead, he gave us all pay-raises through nice big reductions in the federal income tax and he got America working again. In 1986 and 1987 there were "Help Wanted" signs everywhere here in Florida, unlike today.

I will not state anyone was the best but Reagan did great with that he had to work with. I do not know any former president who's done better. I have no time to dispute the video on whether or not there were more jobs created under Clinton by researching it. However, maybe so. But as bad as the country's economy was, Reagan's low taxes and less regulation plan did much good to turn the economy around. Clinton took over after that.

Clearly one of the top 5 and the greatest in the last 60 years or so. When he was elected the economy was in shambles, double digit unemployment, double digit inflation, horrible lending rates from banks, etc. america's opinion of itself was so bad there was serious talk about moving to a parliamentary system because the presidency might be too large for one person. We had hostage takings at an embassy, no respect worldwide, were losing our status as a wold leader, and the Cold War and Russian military buildup was accepted. He, with the support and help of Britain's Thatcher and others encouraged and supported Gorbachev, encouraged him to break up the USSR and end the Cold War, and was instrumental in the changes that saw the Berlin Wall fall, etc. America had new and great strong leadership, got the hostages back, and led the fre world once again. That alone would have made him a great president, but he also simplified he tax code, eased regulations, and jumpstarted the economy. By his second term we had one of the sharpest economic increases ever in this country's history, and he oversaw one of the longest and sharpest economic gains overall. Did he make some mistakes? Iran/Contra? Sure. He wasn't perfect and in 8 years had a few doozies, lol. But they all do...

It is a shame how the left, seeing how successful he was, has managed to sell their BS to a lot of the country. All segments did much better, minorities, poor, wealthy, middle class... yet its been spun that he only helped the rich. Facts don't bear it out but who takes the time to check facts anymore? We could use a Reaganesque president right now, certainly!

Greatest of all time? I'm not sure, but he was certainly the greatest one in my lifetime. That's not even debatable, in my humble view.

Was he perfect? Of course not. Expecting any president or political leader to be perfect is unrealistic. Ridiculously unrealistic.

Reagan said in the early '80s that the Soviet Union was destined for the ash heap of history. Less than a decade later, the Soviet Union collapsed. The world is much, much better off without that evil stain on the map. We can largely thank Reagan for that.

In my lifetime, yes he was the greatest. After Jimmy Carter made a mess and a mockery of this country and we were down and in a terrible recession, it was Reagan who gave us hope, who helped us believe in ourselves again. Who reminded us of the great country we really are.

Contrast with the Obamas who hate this country and tell us how ashamed we should be, yes we should be ashamed...of the Obamas, BOTH of them, especially Barack.

Nice guy, made Americans feel good about being Americans, did some good things as well as some not so good - all and all, a well liked honorable man. Best or Worst?? That tends to be an emotional response rather than anything else. The country prospered which makes him good.

In modern times, Carter still holds the crown for worst president and all the stats confirm that. I am certain he is praying to the politics God that Obama will push him out of that spot but so far he is the 'winner'.

obama will go down in history as the very worst thing America did to itself.
