Was Mitt Romney Right to Criticize Preparations for the London Olympics?

Fox Report with Shepard Smith 2012/07/27 17:33:33
You!

Mitt Romney recently made some pretty undiplomatic remarks about the upcoming Olympics in London, saying he wasn't sure if the country was prepared to host the event. Do you think his comments hold some truth -- or was it a completely unpresidential move?

What's the big deal? The press has been reporting on security problems for weeks. Why the big hoopla when a candidate actually (gasp!) says what everyone else is thinking?

IMO, his own personal experience and pride in handling an Olympics probably played a role in his giving a more technical answer, when he should have been attempting to be more diplomatic about the topic.

Did anybody that said "no" actually listen to what he said? Or did you just listen to a snippet that was taken out of context?

I guess you hear what you want to hear.

Did you also hear the other stupid things he said while in London? Not a disaster by any means but definitely not a good start for showing his foreign relations skills.

Yeah I can see why the left is making such a big deal out of this. Why didn't they make a big deal out of Obama's actions in England? Like taking while their national anthem was playing, or when Mrs Obama hugged the queen. I can understand why he goofed, he still thinks there are 57 states in the US, cause he visited all 57 and had one or three more to visit

Dang and here I thought their were 59 states. From what I hear snorting coke will do that to you.

Maybe but the truth is that England will take it on the chin as far as the amount of money it has cost / will cost, the traffic problems during the entire event, looking at your own WEB sites how empty the events have been many an event goes empty.

No, he had no evidence to back it up and quickly backpedalled afterwards (and surely if he knew he was right, he would stick to his guns). The London Olympics have suffered no more teething problems than any other Olympics in recent history (on something of this scale remember, there will always be one or two issues even at the 11th hour). I think so far the Olympics has been pulled out brilliantly.

It seems to me too that so far the Brits have done a good job. :) You don't walk into somebody's home as a guest and start criticizing the paint and furniture.

Romney needs to close his mouth when he has nothing useful to say. This man wants to be the president- hahaha!

However, I find his remarks about people living in poverty far worse. "I don't care about the very poor".

Perhaps. Obama should close his mouth too then when he has nothing useful to say such as police acting stupidly or that a common thug looks like his son.

Trayvon was not a thug, also the point was that if Obama had a son his son would be black. The problem was about citizens and cops getting away with shooting black kids.

The media was posting pictures of a cute 10 year old child when the story broke. Later we find out that the 10 year old grew up into a thug. The same media tried to portray Zimmerman as a con in an orange jumpsuit. The bias in this whole thing is appaling. Hopefully the full truth will come out in court.

This is just stupid and shows your ignorance. Kids love to wear hoodies, I guess I should tell my 14 year old white daughter that she is obviously trying to wear and disguise. Also, it was raining, so he had his hoodie pulled up. Right now as I'm writing this I have my hoodie up because my boyfriend keeps it so fricking cold in here. As a teacher, I have seen about 900 photos that are somewhat inappropriate (such as this one, nothing really bad, photos with cuss words, etc.) that my former students post. Are they bad kids? No. Are they way too into trying to look cool? Yes. Think about the past, when high school guys immolated James Dean, how many of you (oldies, I'm just a little younger) had your hair slicked back? I was in high school in the 70's, where most guys had long hair and dressed horribly. One of my nephews has a couple tattoos, face piercings and is tall and skinny and has wears hoods. He also plays in a somewhat heavy type of band, he is also a Christian and one of the nicest people I know. The thought of some a-hole profiling and shooting him because of biases and prejudices just makes me sick. You're right though, the bias is horrible....from racists like you. Why don't you start posting the facts about Zimmerman.

I'm a teacher, but I'm not in a union because I am in North Carolina. We teach students to learn to evaluate facts and to form their own opinion. No one says anything like that to any students. There is no liberal agenda.

Romney did not say he does not care for the poor. What he said is he is not concerned about the poor, because our country helps them. The middle class gets no help. If the left wants to be quoted correctly, you need to correctly quote the right also.

Not only was it a diplomatic faux pas, it was also an indirect indication to potential terrorists that they might have a better chance of doing X.

In summary, it was stupid as hell. . .pretty much like apparatchik Romney himself.

What he said was hardly criticism - he was asked a question and he answered it truthfully. That seems pretty "presidential" to me - of course, unless your a liberal democrat - for them, when asked a question, they lie. Telling the truth is unpresidential for a democrat.

No-one accused him of lying, they accused him of being rude and undiplomatic while being a guest in their country.

I saw Carl Lewis on tv talking about the games, he gave a good diplomatic and concise view of things and I do believe it was genuine ..... and he's no politician. It only seems to be a difficult task for Romney.

You will hear the leftists in world politics along with a complicit media blast and twist everything Romney says in order to influence the election as much as they can. What he said about the Olympics was nothing worthy of the criticism he is receiving. It was diplomatic; he could have been very critical. Evidently, many people closer to the Games have been. Romney is getting blasted today for some things he siad about the Palestinians. But, it is all being made to sound much worse than it is. Its criminal and I hope tha tthe American voters are not swayed by this tactic.
