Was an All-You-Can-Eat Fish Fry Right to Cut This Guy Off?

All Bill Wisth wanted was a couple of pieces of fried fish. Is that so much to ask? OK, so it was more like... over a dozen pieces. But hey, the sign said "all-you-can-eat"! The 6 foot 6 inch, 350 pound customer is accusing Chuck's Place in Thiensville, Wisconsin, of false advertising after a waitress refused to bring him a 13th piece of fish. (Although, they reportedly gave him eight more pieces to-go.)

Wisth told a local news station, "We asked for more fish and they refused to give us any more fish. I think that people have to stand up for consumers." And stand up he did. He called the police, then started picketing the restaurant. But apparently Wisth has been a problem in the past. A waitress there says they've dealt with him for years, and that he still hasn't paid off his tab. In their defense, Wisth added, "They do have like some of the best pizza in town." Do you think the all-you-can-eat restaurant was right to refuse this guy more fish?

... It's called ALL YOU CAN EAT.

Not all we THINK you SHOULD eat

If you're going to put a limit, then don't advertise your special as "All you can eat", or at least put finer print that says the limit.

If the restaurant can't afford the hungriest of patrons, then by all means, just CANCEL the "all you can eat" special.

EDIT: Since some are under the impression I didn't read the article; yes, I did. No, I'm not defending this guy. HOWEVER, the restaurant IS at fault for not practicing PROPER refusal of service.

Instead of refusing him from the get-go - which they had EVERY RIGHT TO DO since he'd been causing problems before - they didn't, welcomes him in, and LET him order the ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT.

With that, since he was welcomed and allowed to order what he wanted, they HAVE to see that service through - all he CAN eat, or rather all he wanted to.

Case in point: The restaurant did NOT practice their right to refusal PROPERLY, and thus are unfortunately the ones at fault here. Lesson learned, I should hope.

The sign said "ALL YOU CAN EAT" HELLO! Chuck's Place advertisement would be false if they don't HONOR it. Some people just don't have the control with their eating habit.

When they say "all you can eat" they can expect it to be a reasonable amount of food- not a weeks worth of food for some gluten who inevitably will take advantage of the situation.

If you don't want customers to eat all your food, don't advertise as "all you can eat." Seems simple enough to me.

Just like in the old Andy Griffin story about his trip to Flordia when he stopped at an orange juice stand that adverttised, all the orange juice you can drink ten cents.

After he had one glass, he ask for another and was told that one glass was all he could drink for ten cents.

Evidently 12 peices was all he could eat for the price.

There needs to be a undecided or other option here. Yes it is false advertising, yes it was wrong to refuse him service, yes the customer is always right. However, it is the right of the restaurant to refuse service, The man had a large tab that wasn't paid off, He was a problem in the past (Even though that is irrelevent to this situation), I can believe the restaurant was running out of fish (All you can eat does NOT mean unlimited supply). Honestly though, I found it in poor taste to get the police involved. Not that everyone will agree to that statement, I just find it stupid.

If the guy wants to eat till he throws up or has a heart attack let him! Everyone take responsbility for ONLY themselves. Besides, it does say all-you-can-eat. He obviously could eat more. If there is an issue with over-weight customers eating all they can maybe there should be fine print saying conditions apply. I think it's stupid how some of those places have some sort of limit whether it be an actual time limit like a lot of Asian places do or just a limit to how much you can eat. ITS NOT CALLED ALL YOU CAN EAT THEN!!!

I heard about this on the radio, the DJ said they had to cut him off because they were running of fish that what I heard( I don't know if that's true or not). Oh by the way why would you let the man come back to your restaurant when he didn't pay his past bills?

Once upon a time I had a huge son-in-law. We took him out to dinner at an all you can eat shrimp place. He was six foot 3 and had a big appetite. He really embarrassed us and we never took him to dinner again. He's still alive and kicking but not ours anymore so he can eat all he wants somewhere else.

As others have said, it's called: All you can eat.

There for it should be all a consumer can eat. Not how much the AVERAGE consumer can eat. How much 1 person can eat varies from person to person and from one food to another. Would you eat more of your favourite food than your least favourite? Course you would!

If he'd caused problems before and that was their issue with him, he should've been refused service at the door instead of being misled like this.

Didn't The Simpsons touch this topic once before? With Homer going to an all you can eat seafood restaurant? Pretty sure they did.

He's obese and happy so be it. They might want to change the all-you-can-eat sign if they don't want people eating all their food, but if he wants to eat the whole place...he has to pay his tab. Then he can continue to be stuff his face happily.

He's a friggen pig!!! They should have cut him off sooner! If he is a problem and doesn't pay his tab then he needs to be jailed for theft!!! He's a slob that thinks he can get away with this type of behavior by acting like a friggen jerk! This is the type of guy that makes obese people look bad!!

They have a right to refuse service at any time...this seems like one of those times. They even gave him 8 more fish to go.

"A waitress there says they've dealt with him for years, and that he still hasn't paid off his tab."
    Poor guy gotta eat first.

The restaurant is wrong, because they advertised "All You Can Eat" meaning you can eat all you can eat! They put that advertisement up to draw customers in but when you get a customer who take the advertise for what it's really saying, you want to throw them out. What kind of sh*t is that? It's should have said "Don't eat to much"! :)))

Plus I have never heard of restaurants allowing all you can eat to go boxes. I am assuming this guy gets loud and the waitresses just don't want to deal with him so they usually give him what he wants. This time they didn't and he blew a gasket. I've seen this before working at a truck stop.

"He still hasn't paid off his tab." I think that bit of information is important. Calling the cops because a restaurant won't serve your fatness one more piece of fish you HAVEN'T paid for? (And eight pieces to-go? Usually you don't get any to to-go at an all you can eat.) Sounds like somebody is a real problem.
I worked at a church sponsored fish fry once and was appalled at the behavior of some of the customers. People seem to think all-you-can-eat is all you can shove down your throat, up your nose, in your ears, up your ass, and down your shirt. Especially bad considering this was supposed to be a fund raiser for charity!

LOL I love it. I have seen a lot of people abuse all you can eat. For instance they will purchase 1 plate and try to feed their whole family with it cheating the owners. Sounds kinda like what this guy is doing.

Yeah I think it's pretty obvious he was abusing it. And as long as he got his money's worth, which he did, the restaurant can tell problematic customers to leave.

Looks like a big fat obnoxious glutton. Piling his plate sky high, not leaving enough for the rest of the people... must be a reason he would be cut off at an all-you-can-eat place. They should have banned him from the restaurant altogether. Then we'd have nothing to alk about.

If it's an All-You-Can-Eat place, then it should stick to it's guns. Besides, there are so many people like me who would go in thinking that I could eat a lot and wind up only eating two or three pieces. If you don't want to operate an "All You Can Eat" restaurant, then don't....but don't say that it is, but then limit a person who wants to eat....
