His party affiliation was with the National Socialist German workers Party. During his reign as Reich Chancellor and as Furher he set into motion many programs that centralized government, redistributed wealth, nationalized banks and industry, regulated pay, controlled media, controlled firearms, youth indoctrination programs and had cabinet members who were concidered "radicals" by many. Sound familiar? Definitely left wing! firearmsyouth indoctrination programs cabinet members concidered radicals sound familiar wing

    And he rallied the masses!

No, Communism does not. Communism also does not provide slave labor to increase corporate profits.

    Myth: Hitler was a rightist.

The rise of fascism and communism illustrated vividly the fallacies of the linear conception of Right and Left. In certain basic respects - a totalitarian state structure, a single party, a leader, a secret police, a hatred of political, cultural and intellectual freedom - fascism and communism are clearly more like each other than they are like anything in between. This dilemma drove Prof. DeWitt C. Poole to an inspired suggestion. Right and Left, he said, should be conceived, not in terms of a line, but in terms of a circle, with the extremes of Right and Left - fascism and communism - meeting at the bottom. You can then look at the circle in two ways: with respect to property, fascism and the moderate Right are side by side against communism and the moderate Left; with respect to liberty, the moderate Right and moderate Left are side by side against fascism and communism.

You nailed it perfectly... Any argument fails when confronted to this...

You know what saddens me? All this doesn't fit into a 140 characters line... I'm willing to bet a year's salary that most (if not all) who already think he was leftist will not even bother to read and learn... They'll keep repeating the same nonsense about "it's called national-SOCIALISM for a reason duh!!"...They made up their mind and no amount of truth will enlight them... That is also a right-wing trait IMO...

It sadden me because I see more and more people chosing the lazy path... If it doesn't fit into a 140 character punch line, it isn't worth reading. .. Everything is being reduced to fundamentally empty slogans...

    So sad...

Thanks you so much for this post. It is the best post I have read about this topic. It scares me to see that so many people here on SH are willing to distort facts about the worst time in modern history to suit their political aims.

You're doing something very common with New York Leftists, you are confusing left-right with totatlitarianism. Hitler, Stalin, Bronstein, and Marx are all Totalitarians. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE!!

    The end-point is the same.

Marx was an anti-statist ideally. Marx believed, "the end justifies the means".

Marx did not understand economics or human nature and every society or revolution based on Marxism has turned into a murderous campaign against basic human rights. Just like Hiter believed.... Marx believed, the State had all power to dictate until the theoretical Utopia would be reached. Another totalitarian pipe dream.

This childish cartoon explains nothing. Marx had his theoretical communism but believed society would have to go through a totalitariam socalist stage. Read 'The Communist Manifesto".

Communism has been tried but never works except on a very small scale like at a monastery or a kibbutz. Socialism has never done anything but spread the poverty, spread the misery.

LOL - Hitler was NOT a socialist - no more than China is a true Republic (People's Republic of China) (simply using a title - socialist, republic, Christian, etc. - does not make you one)..... Hitler purged most, if not all, of the socialist elements in the Nazi party in 1934.... this purge was called Operation Hummingbird - AKA - "The Night of the Long Knives" ---- Hitler had his socialist rival, Ernst Röhm executed. Hitler was uncomfortable with Röhm's outspoken support for a "second revolution" to redistribute wealth (sound familiar?).

Hitler's book Mein Kampf (My Struggle) clearly indicates his hatred of socialist or communist ideas. Thus, part of the rationale for Operation Barbarossa (1941), the German Invasion of the Soviet Union.

LOL, In short, Hitler was a SINO (Socialist in Name Only) after 1934.
