The Dream Act would have passed in the lame duck session in 2010 if the GOP hadn't filibustered it. Now Rubio and Romney say a long term solution would be better, when the GOP has kicked the can down the road since Bush advocated guest worker permits. They can bash the president, but their Saint Reagan gave amnesty to 11 million illegals.

It was 3.2 million who received amnesty under Reagan's watch in 1986. The Government had estimated that no more than 800,000 would be eligible... turned out to be 4 times that amount! Obama is saying that 800,000 illegals will qualify for a 2 year deferred deportation and work permits. What would you like to bet that the real number is over 3.2 million and probably closer to 6 million? What do you think this will do for our unemployment problem when they are all legally eligible to compete against unemployed Americans in a jobless labor market. Obama just screwed America and all for the hispanic vote!

Not millions between 15-30 here 5 years. Many will be getting a higher education, and will work part time jobs that others would not take. BTW, where are the jobs that Boehner promised if given control of the House? Oh, that's right, the war on women and abortion was more important.

jobs that others won't take? so you obviously only know snobs, or people that already have jobs. the people i know are looking for work and are at a point where they would just about take anything. i have a newly graduated daughter that can't even get a job at the local convenience stores. no one is hiring. so tire of hearing that lame excuse that illegal aliens take jobs americans won't. i'd like to meet the folks that would turn down a job in this economy.

Those still on unemployment from silicon valley want back to work in their fields. Gee, Rick Perry said there were plenty of jobs in Texas, even more than Romney ever created. Perhaps you should call him.

LOL!!!! You're buying into all that huh? I live in Texas and I can tell you from experience, times are hard, and jobs are even harder to find. See I listen and talk to REAL people...you know the ones in the trenches, the ones that are having trouble budgeting for groceries, gas. The ones that can't find a job, the ones that get turned down from a job because they don't speak Spanish. Real people with brains can see this as a problem. This little political move by Obama will only serve as a magnet for more illegal immigration. THe reality is, we don't have the money or the resources to support the millions of illegal immigrants that reside and continue to flow into this country. Period. It's not rocket science.

How can that happen? They have to be between 15-30 and here 5 years to avoid deportation. What is Romney's "Long Term" solution? Seems he just can't say what it is.

I don't know what Romney's long term solution is. His is probably no better then Obama's. How did Romney come into the discussion? Are you assuming I support Romney? If so, you assume wrong. I know giving amnesty every several years by ANY administration is not solving the problem. Illegal immigrants understand that if they keep their noses clean long enough, another admin will call for amnesty and their worries are over. We cannot open our borders. There is a reason why EVERY country has border patrol and regulations and laws in place to keep their borders closely monitored. We can't afford ourselves this day and time, we don't have the resources or the funds, but ignorance will say, open the borders up and let's bring some more people into the population. We'll be a 3rd world country before too long, because our resources will be depeted.

The parties solution for 20 years has been to do nothing and hoping the problem would just magically go away. Now we have such an enormous problem the choices are few. To deport each illegal would cost $23,000 per head and we can't afford it. Congress should have listened to Bush and gave out guest worker passes. Then we would know who they now are and could follow and fine them, and make them pay into SS. If productive for 10 years then they could apply for citizenship. Continue reinforcing the borders at the same time.

The problem is that illegals will work for peanuts and after they glut an industry the wages drop to an unsustainable level which most American's simply can't survive on. Doesn't make any sense to work a job that won't pay enough to cover the rent or morgage, because you'll soon be homeless if you do! So, American's logically avoid these unsustainable wage jobs and then these are claimed to be jobs that American's are unwilling to do! It's all a bunch of BS perpetrated by the pro illegal crowd to make people belive that we just can't live without their beloved illegal aliens. There isn't any job that American's won't do at a sustainable wage

Crops rotted in the fields down south after Alabama (and other southern states) passed their own immigration laws. Maybe your unemployed friends should have applied for them jobs. From what I heard the farmers even offered higher wages to Americans but none of them lasted a week.

EDIT: Who would've thought that my few responses on this page would have INTIMIDATED the author of this thread. I guess the mere mention of crops rotting in the fields down south struck FEAR in his/her heart.

Well, I took a screenshot to prove that I did NOT initiate the block.

Initially there was a transition period and some crops did rot in the field. Digging a little deeper, this was due to farmers who didn't prepare for the legislation by signing up for and using the H2A visa program, which allows farmers to draw from a virtually unlimited field of imported temporary foreign workers, instead of illegal aliens. Foreigners applying for H2A visas receive them within a day or two, so the program is geared for easy access by employers. The problem is this... farmers must abide by workers compensation and fair wage rules when using the program. It appears that it's much easier and cheaper to exploit illegals than to play by the rules.

Well it looks like the farmers who chose to exploit cheaper labor reaped what they sowed (in a manner of speaking).

I don't rely on msm for my news or facts. The fact is, I know Americans that would work fields if there were any to work. The argument that they'll work jobs no one else will is a tired, untrue argument. It's an easy argument, but not valid.

Well, it was national news that crops were rotting in the field because Americans in Alabama & Georgia didn't go flooding to them jobs. Obviously the people you know didn't go to them states to pick the crops that were rotting in the fields.

No some people can't get up & move to another state so easily. Maybe you can, but it's not easy for everyone to do that.

Lol, "jobs that others would not take"? Dozens of videos on YouTube showing the aftermaths of workplace immigration raids conducted by Sheriff Joe and ICE... they show hundreds of American's lining up for blocks the very next morning to apply for those jobs previously held by illegals... jobs that pro open border advocates have been claiming for years that American's wouldn't take! Who do you think was doing all these jobs before we had all these illegal aliens here? Congress has passed over 30 jobs bills and passed them on to the Senate where they sit on Harry Reid's desk because he refuses to bring them up for a vote. Wake up... even Steve Jobs warned Obama that he was headed for a one term Presidency because his administration was so "unfriendly" to business!

Where did they raid, genius? Not the picking fields I am sure. The House jobs bills were all laden with earmarks like approval of the dangerous Keystone pipeline as conditions the Democrats must accept, and would not create the jobs Boehner claimed. The GOP are obstructing on purpose and it will come back to bite them on the butt in November. Why their approval is in the dumps and independents are furious.

Do you mean the Keystone pipeline that a super majority of American's are in favor of... that one? Less than 2% of the illegals here are actually working our fields... so your point is? Perhaps you've never heard of the H2A visa program which allows farmers to draw from a ready pool of virtually unlimited temporary foreign workers. The problem... farmers must abide by workman's compensation and fair wage rules when using the program and they've found it much easier and cheaper to exploit illegals rather than to play by the rules! This practice of hiring illegals all for the sake of bigger profit margins and cheaper veggies hurts us all, because it causes wages to plummet, while overburdening our schools and hospitals, which in turn drains taxpayer dollars from the treasury. Independents are furious? Yes they are... at Obama! Look at the polls... every single poll shows that the President has lost the favor of Independents, who are leaving him in droves and clearly casting a majority over to the conservative side of the fence! Wake up, you've been severly misinformed!
  • luvguins william... 2012/06/25 16:27:58

Quite a myth you have about independents. And farmers cannot find any white Americans to pick fruit and vegetables except migrant workers. They would never accept the pay nor conditions. They even look aside when migrant children work.

No myth about Independents, but verifiable fact easily found thru some research right at your fingertips! No need to have whites work in the fields when there are literally millions of H2A visa holders anxiously waiting to legally come and work here. BTW, they don't like the unfair competition they get from illegal aliens either! Your point seems to be to bash white American's... is that it?
